The Director of Electoral Services at the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Serebour Quaicoe says the media will not pay a penny for accreditation in the upcoming general elections.
He noted the media have been “helpful” to the Commission, hence, accreditation will be “free” for all media houses.
“The media will not pay for accreditation but observers and others will have to pay,” he said in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show, 'Ghana Montie'.
In the 2016 election, the Electoral Commission charged for media accreditation for journalists who covered the December 7 Presidential and Parliamentary polls.
The Electoral Commission charged each journalist GH $2.50 to cover the elections.
The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission then, Madam Charlotte Osei, explained that the Election Management Body did not have enough funds to print the media accreditation for all journalists.
