A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Mr. Alan Kojo Kyerematen has urged members of the NPP to desist from negative activities that will affect the chances of the party in the 2012 elections.

He said party members should acknowledge that they are in opposition and must stop fighting amongst themselves and concentrate on building the party to wrest power from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC). Mr. Kyerematen was addressing some party faithful at Anloga in the Volta Region. They were drawn from the 22 constituencies of the Volta Region.

The meeting was after the funeral of the late mother of the former regional vice chairperson of the party Mr Makafui Wenya. Mr Kyerematen said even though he acknowledges the positive role of factionalism among members of a political party, it is not appropriate for members of such factions to be fighting among themselves.

This, he noted, undermines the cohesion within the party. He explained that what the NPP needs is to wrest power from the NDC, hence the need for constituency executives to engage in what he describes as persistent and aggressive grassroots campaign.

Mr Kyerematen also cautioned delegates to consider a candidate that is not only the choice of the party but also is one who appeals to majority of Ghanaians. The Regional Chairman of the party Mr Kenwood Nuworsoo said Ghanaians, especially residents of the Volta Region, are disappointed at the performance of the NDC government.

He observed that the NDC government has not been able to initiate any new policies that are geared towards improving the living standards of the people. Mr Nuworsoo however urged the NPP to be resolute and focus on strengthening the party structure to win power in 2012.

In a related development, an aspiring national chairman of the NPP Sammy Crabbe, is in the region canvassing for support to be elected national chairman of the party.
