The Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Mr. Fifi Kwetey was prevented by Parliament from answering questions in the House on Tuesday on behalf of the Sector Minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffour, as a result of an objection raised by the Minority in Parliament.
The Minority argued that the questions which were supposed to be answered by the Finance and Economic Planning Minister centered on serious economic issues which require the Minister himself to have come to the House to answer the questions which stood in the name of Honorable Joseph Ampomah Bosompem, MP for Akim Swedru.
The questions which were printed in the Order Paper sought explanations on i). practical measures being taken by government to stimulate productivity and economic growth. Ii). Measures being taken by the Finance Minister to reinvigorate the private sector to employ more people and iii). Measures being taken by government to stimulate private sector productivity.
The Majority caucus on the other hand called on the House to allow Mr. Fifi Kwetey to answer the questions on behalf of the substantive minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffour as has been the convention in Parliament anytime a Minister was unable to turn up to answer questions in the house.
After the argument by the Minority and Majority caucuses, the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Joyce Bamford Addo, ruled in favour of the Minority thereby preventing Mr. Fifi Kwetey from answering the questions.
Mr. Fifi Kwetey therefore left the chamber quietly.
