President Atta Mills has revoked the appointment of West Mamprusi District Chief Executive (DCE) Lord Sulley Zakari, with immediate effect.

A statement signed by Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, said Mr Zakari should hand over to the Northern Regional Minister, who would exercise oversight responsibility over the district until a new DCE is appointed.

The dismissed DCE has been under incessant attack from NDC foot-soldiers in the area, going under cover for some time.

Some residents in the district and members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had expressed dissatisfaction with Zakaria Lord over some unpalatable statements and unilateral decisions that he made.

These unpalatable statements, according to party members, would affect the fortunes of the party in the area, coupled with his continuous bragging that he was doing well before assuming office.

Majority of party members including some concerned residents had therefore called for his removal from office, saying his administration was the worse in the history of the district.

Some NDC foot-soldiers threatened to forcibly throw him out if he continued to look down on the party elders and chiefs in the district.

Mr. Sulley’s tenure had been characterized by confusion between the various youth groups within the party who have accused him of being arrogant and allegedly grabbing properties.

This has earned him the name “Walewale Mobuto” since he allegedly told some people that he was untouchable and could lobby his way through.

According to sources, he has allegedly created confusion among the youth in order to allow him to engage in nefarious activities.

In a related development, President Mills has nominated nine persons as Metropolitan/Municipal/District Chief Executives.

A statement signed by Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, in Accra on Thursday named them as Kwabena Tweneboah Kodua (Bia), Sylvester Nuomah Dadieh (Jomoro), Enoch Kojo Appiah (Shama) and Adanse J. Bonda, (Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai), all in the Western Region.

The others are Mark Dompreh (Akwapim South) and George Mensah Akpaloo (West Akim), both in the Eastern Region; Baffour Kese Amankwa (Offinso South) and Kwaku Afrifa Yamoah Ponko (Ejisu/Juaben), both in the Ashanti Region and Edward Ayiribi Ayagle (Bolgatanga) in the Upper East Region.

The various MMDAs will meet to confirm the president’s nominees.
