Western Regional Organizer of the 31st December Women’s Movement (DWM), Madam Josephine Amoo, says repeated calls on the Founder of the Movement and Former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings to rescind her decision to contest the sitting President, Prof Mills, are in order saying the time is not ripe for her to become president.

Even though Madam Josephine Amoo conceded that Mrs Rawlings has all it takes to be a president of this country, she says “the ground is not good for her this time”.

Her statement comes in the wake of recent requests by some members of the 31st December Women’s Movement asking Mrs. Rawlings to rescind her decision to contest President Mills for the flagbearership position of the NDC due to the movements recent bashing following her decision to contest.

Speaking on Xfm’s morning show, the Big Bite, Madam Amoo said ever since Mrs Rawlings made public her decision to contest the NDC’s presidential primaries , quite a number of people have questioned if Ghana is ready for a female president, adding that President Mills should be allowed to continue his good works.

She blamed those working for Mrs Rawlings on the ground as the ones who are deceiving her into believing that she has enough support on the ground.

Madam Amoo, who said Mrs. Rawlings could go ahead with her ambition should she refuse to heed to the call to rescind her decision, however, doubted if she has any bright chance of beating president Mills to the race, and asked, “if even she wins the flagbearership, will Ghanaians vote for her; is the party not going to be divided; will they not laugh at us?

Madam Amoo stressed that she would not renounce her membership from the 31st December Women’s Movement should Mrs. Rawlings refuse to rescind her decision.
