Head of the Free Zones Board and a member of the National Democratic Congress has played down on the effect a demonstration in the Volta Region -the partys stronghold- would have on the fortunes of the party in the 2012 elections.
Kojo Twum Boafo is convinced the perceived discontentment with the NDC in the Volta Region has been over exaggerated.
This week, a group calling itself the NDC Youth for Action lined up on the streets in anger, calling for the head of the Regional Minister and the Municipal Chief Executive.
The two, they claim are sleeping on the job whilst the region wallow in strangling poverty, unemployment and under development.
While on the demonstration, the leaders were arrested by the police for breaching public order.
On Joy FM and Multi TVs news analysis programme Newsfile on Saturday, Kojo Twum Boafo rubbished the impact of the demonstration, saying the number of demonstrators, clips of which were shown on Multi TV, is enough reason why the demonstrators should be ignored.
Let us get serious. That, right there [pointing to the clip] may be after putting that up I shouldnt speak again. Because that is not a demonstration, that is a joke, he said.
Our opponents in the NPP have made a big song and dance about the despondency in the Volta Region. When you see, I counted them, there were about 13 people in the frame," he claimed.
He defended the action of the police to arrest the demonstrators who he claimed did not pass through the right procedures before embarking on the demonstration.
According to him, rumours of disaffection and despondency in the partys stronghold can only be an illusion if not an over exaggeration of the matter.
He said the Eastern corridor road and the University of Allied Health Sciences, two major projects promised the people of Volta Region are in various stages of execution.
But the Editor in Chief of the New Crusading Guide who was also on the programme disagreed with the assertions of the NDC official.
Malik Kweku Baako, said in demonstrations, numbers do not sometimes matter but the impact of that demonstration is what matters.
He made reference to the revolutions in the Middle East which were triggered by one man in Tunisia.
A self-immolation by Mohammed Bouazizi in Tunisia led to the overthrow of the Tunisian President, Zine El Abidine Ben Ali; the Egyptian President, Hosni Mubarak with other violent protests in Libya and other countries in the Middle East.
Mr. Baako insisted that given the reaction from President John Mills, the Regional Minister, Joseph Amenowode, the impact of the demonstration should not be underestimated.
He said it will be dangerous to ignore the issues raised by the demonstrators particularly because they are members of the NDC.
