The NDCs Communications Director for the Central Region, Bernard Allotey Jacobs, has slammed General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie for alleging that the NDC plans to set up NPP gurus by planting narcotic substances in their traveling luggage.
He describes the claims as complete balderdash.
The New Statesman newspaper reported in its Wednesday, August 24 edition that the NPP General Secretary has issued a stern warning to the entire membership of the NPP who intend travelling outside the country to be extremely careful with their luggage at the airport since a plot to implicate several top NPP gurus with "illicit substances planted in their luggage has been hatched.
The NPP Chief Scribe again repeated the allegation on Asempa FM and added that the scheme is to serve as ultimate proof to justify speculations widely made by the ruling NDC in the run up to the 2008 elections that the NPP is indeed a narcotics party ahead of the 2012 general elections.
Affectionately called Sir John, the NPP General Secretary who said he had no reason to doubt the credibility of the information, refused to reveal his source. He said already the NDC had referred to the NPP as a cocaine party and therefore urged the leaders of the party to thoroughly watch the checks conducted on them by the Immigration Officers at the Airport.
His call came after the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) on Tuesday August 23, 2011 confirmed the arrested of 11 members of the NACOB and other state agencies for allegedly aiding drug traffickers at the Kotoka International Airport. The employees, most of whom are superior officers of NACOB, National Security and the Bureau of National Investigations have been in cahoots with the drug peddlers since 2007, helping them to smuggle drugs to Europe and the United States for a fee.
Infuriated by Sir Johns comment, the outspoken NDC leading member called into Ekosii sen, the stations political discussion program and rubbished the claims, alleging that Sir John knows the people in the NPP who deal in drugs.
Wondering how the NDC could possibly execute the planting of illicit drugs in the luggage of NPP gurus, he urged Sir John to rather advise his party members who are into the drug trade to quit immediately or risk being arrested.
some people in the NPP are drug traffickers so he shouldnt come and say that someone is trying to set them up. He knows the drug traffickers in the NPP that is why he is saying all this. Is government staying with these NPP people in their homes to plant cocaine in their luggage? He should rather advice his people involved in the drug trade that we are serious about exposing all of them, hence they should cease engaging in such nefarious acts, he fumed.
