The Minister of Health, Mr. Joseph Yieleh Chireh has said that he will not react to the call by the Central regional Communications Director of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Bernard Allotey Jacobs, for his (Minister) dismissal.
Mr. Allotey has stated that the image of the government would be greatly enhanced if the Health Minister is sacked rather than Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng.
Mr. Yieleh Chireh, last week, signed a letter dismissing Prof. Boateng and instructing the heart surgeon to cease working at the Korle-Bu Cardiothoracic Centre with immediate effect. The decision had drawn a lot of condemnations from people of the political divide and which also brought about a strike by doctors at the Korle Bu Cardio Centre Monday who said they would not accept new cases until Prof. Boatengs reinstatement.
President Mills had quickly move in to calm nerves and brought the striking doctors back to work. On Peace FMs Kokrokoo on Monday morning, Allotey did not hide his displeasure at the process to fire the heart surgeon, saying the manner in which Prof. Boatengs dismissal was handled was unfair.
He questioned why anyone would want to disgrace a professional of Professor Boatengs caliber in such a manner and demanded that the Health Minister should explain to Ghanaians what his motivations were to take such an action in the most demeaning manner. Who is the minister pleasing, Allotey asked, questioning why Frimpong Boateng should be treated as though he were just an ordinary person. However, when the National Democrat newspaper contacted the Minister for his reaction to Mr. Alloteys call for his dismissal, he simply said in a text mission, no reaction.
