Suspended Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Kofi Adams says the decision to suspend him and have his NDC membership revoked came from a little mind that is only up to some mischief.
Kofi Adams, who also speaks for the former President Rawlings says no serious person will put any value on the tape.
Kofi Adams was speaking in an interview with Sacut Amenga-Etego on the New Voices on Xfm 95.1, shortly after he was suspended from the NDC pending investigations into a leaked tape that allegedly contains his voice vowing to do anything to ensure that President Mills does not get a second term in office.
He was subsequently suspended even though he has denied that the voice on the tape belongs to him.
if I raise those issues in July 9th on the Day of Congress on what basis will anybody carry such views till last week, March 2012, to make it an issue and conclude that it is a fact? he asked, alluding to campaign messages Mrs Rawlings and members of her team had raised prior to the Sunyani congress on why President John Mills should not be given a second nod.
He however concurred that the issues raised on the said tape are issues he associates himself with since he was supporting the former First Lady during the Sunyani congress.
I did not support President Mills re-election bid for the party because I did not want him to go a second term; I wanted him to do one term and give way for another person to take us through the next stage. And I did not mince this when I met the partys delegates and I gave them reasons. I thought they would be playing that one too. So yes, I associate myself with comments that have been made because that was what my wishes were. We went to a congress, they decided otherwise.
In this light, Kofi Adams stated that he was being principled in not supporting the Presidents second term bid.
Even if the voice really was mine, I was being principled standing for what I have stood for. I have not hidden that fact; so I do not see the reason why I should be wishing president Mills to do a second term when I was not supporting his re-election bid.
Going down memory lane, Kofi Adams recounted his contribution to the ruling party dating back to his school days when he publicly defended the NDCs principles when the so-called big ones hid.
When I left school, I continued serving this party. Indeed, I was a member of the reorganization team for the Central region in 2001, became constituency Secretary for Asikuma Odoben Brakwa and then became a Regional Youth Organizer for the Central Region for two terms. Then National Deputy Youth Organiser and being part of President Rawlings campaign team for the 2008 elections. I have served so much for this party, he recounted.
