President John Dramani Mahama has declared he was appalled at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addos recent promise of free healthcare for Ghanaians below 18.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer stated that the recent promise was already being implemented by the ruling government.
I was very surprised that as the leader of a political party, he [Nana Addo] didnt know that since 2009, an administrative directive was given that all children below the age of 18 were not supposed to pay any medical fees, he said on his campaign tour in the Western Region.
Parliament has amended the NHIA [National Health Insurance Authority] law so that children under 18 would not pay any fees when they go to the hospital.
President Mahama further mentioned that because Nana Addo was in a haste to make vague political promises in order to get Ghanaians to vote for him, he did not invest time to research on the matter.
He, however, said he did not blame the main opposition leader but instead his [Nana Addo] advisors because, they were supposed to do the research and tell him but since they were unable to, they have to be sacked.
