The Chief Justice, Mrs. Justice Georgina T. Wood, has said Ghanaians are entitled to assess the performance of the judiciary. She has therefore, urged judges to work harder to sustain the trust and confidence reposed in them.
"The people and the community we serve are entitled to, and will indeed judge us strictly by our performance, competence and our treatment of person who appear before us. We must therefore work harder to sustain the trust and the confidence reposed in us.
Mrs. Wood made the call in Accra at the swearing-in of 12 Circuit court judges and 10 magistrates. They all swore the Oath of allegiance, the judiciary Oath and the Oath of Secrecy.
According to Mrs. Justice Wood, the judicial power exercised by judges and magistrates are done for and on behalf of the sovereign people of the country and it is undisputed that the judiciary should be accountable and ethical.
