Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ade Coker has condemned the vitriolic attacks on President John Dramani Mahama especially from members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The Central Regional Secretary of the NPP, Kwamena Duncan, on Wednesday accused President Mahama of being corrupt, reiterating that he will never trust President Mahama to fight corruption in this country.
He cited seemingly credible account by former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Martin Amidu of corruption claims against the current president, that in July 26, 2011, following the hue and cry over the price at which the state acquired five aircraft, including an Embraer 190 and a hanger for the Ghana Air Force, the late President Mills set up a Committee of Enquirer to investigate the Processes of the Acquisition as negotiated by then Vice-President President John Mahama to back his assertions.
According to Kwamena Duncan, the erstwhile A-G claimed Prof Mills set up a Committee, comprising Mr. William Aboah, a former Minister for the Interior, Mr. George Amoah, and Brigadier General Allotey (Rtd), a former Judge Advocate-General, which was dead on arrival because the late President Mills was confronted and warned of the implications of investigating then Vice President Mahama as well as other government officials and top military officers.
Contributing to discussions on PeaceFMs Kokrokoo Morning Show, he pointed out that for the late former President to contemplate the setting up of that particular Committee meant that he was uncomfortable with and suspicious of the alleged inflated prices of the aircraft, thus Mr Mahama cannot claim to be corruption-free.
"I cannot trust this man to fight corruption in Ghana," he bellowed.
He was of the firm belief that the various committees set up by President Mahama to look into issues bordering on corruption will amount to nothing because he (Mahama) will never implement any of the recommendations that will be submitted to him.
But Ade Coker took strong exceptions to the tagging of the president as corrupt.
Speaking on the same platform, the Greater Accra Regional NDC Chair described as unacceptable the penchant of the NPP stalwart to use insulting language against the president.
this is not the first time the NPP kingpin has made such a comment about the President but it is wrong to use such words on the President, he said.
Wondering why Martin Amidus claim should be swallowed hook, line and sinker, Ade Coker admonished his colleague on the other side of the political divide to be circumspect with his choice of words, and debate issues based on facts.
Abreast yourself with the facts on the ground; President Mahama is committed to fighting corruption; no matter which reports or acts of corruption that have emerged; President Mahama has shown and indicated that he is not going to tolerate any act of corruption in his administration and he is working tirelessly towards that, Ade Coker strongly said in defence.
