Immediate past General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, has said sanctions meted out to the party’s chief scribe, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong and Sammy Crabbe, 2nd Vice Chairman, is a good omen for the elephant family.
In his view, the indefinite suspension of the duo will help instill discipline in the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition.
“They have been used as sacrificial lambs. If you listen to our leaders, we understand that they pleaded with the National Executive Committee (NEC) to temper justice with mercy and so it was obvious that they accepted their guilt but pleaded for forgiveness.”
Sometimes, if something will be better, it must overcome some difficulties. And so, by next week, all the brouhaha surrounding the suspension of the duo will be over and everybody will have his or her peace to go into the 2016 general elections with united front,” he noted.
Mr. Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John, made these observations in an interview with Accra based Peace FM on Friday.
He was reacting to the indefinite suspension of his successor, Agyepong and 2nd Vice Chairman of the party, Crabbe by the NEC after a marathon meeting on Thursday, December 10, 2015.
The two were found guilty for breaching various constitutional provisions of the party by the Reverend Emmanuel Asante led Disciplinary Committee (DC) which recommended for their suspension.
The NEC having met over the issue, therefore, upheld the decision.
Mr. Afriyie commenting further was very optimistic that Agyepong and Crabbe would be recalled to continue with their work in the coming days but added, “that will be subject to good behavior they will exhibit.”
