“Beautiful language but in terms of symbolism and the spirituality of our people, our history and culture, I think that it is a waste of time, space and energy. It is an exercise which should not have taken place. It is worthless…” says Editor-In-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako.
Kweku Baako was speaking to the controversies surrounding the new logo of the Electoral Commission.
The Commission’s new logo has generated some heated debate in the public about whether it was necessary to change it in the first place.
At a ceremony in Accra Tuesday, April 26, 2016, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs Charlotte Osei defended the Commission's decision to stick to the new logo. Explaining the meaning of the logo, Charlotte Osei said the blue in the circle represents unity and also represents stability and independence of the commission; while, the inward moving arrows reflect the coming together of the people of Ghana to select their political leaders.
Contributing to a panel discussion on Wednesday’s edition of PeaceFM's ‘Kokrokoo’, Kweku Baako said even though he has nothing against the logo ‘in principle’, it is a waste of time’.
“In principle I have nothing against the logo but….I like the lady; I admire her and I admire her intelligence but she should carry along the public in terms of certain things. This particular logo project is a no no no,” he said.
