CPP Flagbearer Ivor Kobina Greenstreet has indicated that he will utilize the tropical African almond tree to boost the economy.
Addressing stakeholders in Ghana's electoral system, politicians and a section of the media at Alisa Hotel during the 2016 Evening Encounter series by the IEA, the CPP flagbearer disclosed that the government has failed to create jobs and further resolve the economic crises because it is bereft of ideas.
Speaking on how the CPP will strategize to enhance the growth of the economy, Mr. Greenstreet disclosed that under his leadership, the country will generate 300 million dollars from growing tropical African almond trees.
He further noted almond production will help employ millions of Ghanaians in order to improve their living conditions.
He believed the yield of almonds is good and the growth rate is far increasing than the production of Ghana's major export, Cocoa.
An estimate of 3550 kilograms per hectare would be harvested from the production of the African almond trees resulting in $10000 per tank on the international market, he further mentioned.
“California alone produces 80% of the world supply and earns an income running into billions and billions of dollars . . .
“Almond has a short growing period and a very good yield. The yield is approximately 3550 kilograms per hectare and it starts bearing food after only two and half years. Harvesting and processing is easy and cheap. And rainfall requirements are minimum, meaning it can grow practically as it does anywhere in the country. Most importantly, the price on the international market for almond oil is as much as 10000 US Dollars per tank and I’m understating the price. Cocoa has never gone above 3600 dollars a tank. Oil palm is currently 800 dollars a tank.”
He stressed that "while the shameful and disgraceful like NDC chasing the Chinese around in circle for 3 billion when God has given us fertile lands that with a little effort", the CPP aims to "mobilize 2 million youth to plant 32 trees per a person in an 8-hour work day or 1280 million trees in 20 days at a 175 trees per hectare. Meaning that a total area equivalent to 7, 314, 285.7 hectares will be planted giving us almost 26 million tanks for the whole area.”
Also touching on job creation, Mr. Greenstreet noted that his administration will revitalize the National Identification System.
“Within six months of coming into office, CPP would introduce the National ID system. We can all see what has happened so far. And we would implement it entirely by our own local created software developers. The process itself will provide new Ghanaian jobs. It will help with our electoral register . . . It will ensure better credit rating. It will save millions from multiple agencies doing the same job. It will provide better statistics. It will allow us to have an addressing system. Help widen the tax net and facilitating commerce.”
