The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of being behind the attack on the convoy of the President in the Ashanti region.
President John Mahama is in the Ashanti region as part of his Accounting to the People Tour.
A section of the convoy was reportedly attacked Tuesday night at Essieninpong after the President had commissioned a centre for Renewable Energy and Entrepreneurship Village for the Kumasi Polytechnic.
The Ashanti Region NDC secretary, Raymond Tandoh in an interview with Nhyira FM’s Ohemeng Tawiah described the act as barbaric.
He claimed the NDC parliamentary candidate for Ejisu Juaben, Gloria Hudze was hit by a stone thrown pelted by the alleged supporters of the NPP.
“This is not the first time such a thing has happened; a few months ago, some people hooted at President Mahama at a funeral in Bantama and now this so I’m convinced the NPP is behind it” he insisted.
Mr. Tandoh said they have reported the matter to the police and would advise themselves accordingly after the investigations.
Meanwhile, two people have been arrested in connection with the attack on the President’s convoy.
Ejisu Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Labama confirmed this to Ohemeng Tawiah but did not give details of the suspect.
He however promised to make their findings public after investigation.
