Acting General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu says the Mahama administration is deceiving Ghanaians over the energy situation confronting the country.
President John Dramani Mahama contradicted the Power Ministry and the Electricity Company of Ghana's recent announcement of subsidies for low level power consumers.
The ECG announced a revision of utility tariffs and an introduction of new subsidies.
According to President Mahama, the ECG has rather realigned their billing system.
“It is not a subsidy. It is a realignment of the billing system that makes it possible for us to be able to know how much we are spending on electricity,” the President said in an address to Muslims on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.
Addressing the issue on 'kokrokoo' on Peace FM, John Boadu stressed that the President's declaration is "a lie. It's plain [plain, plain] misinformation. It’s deception."
He noted that the government's realignment of the billing system is to honour the conditionalities of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
He further said the government has increased the bills by over 300 percent instead of reducing it to better the lives of Ghanaians.
“We’re not getting the trust and honesty from government. Ghanaians should listen and know what’s going on. For me, I think this is the lowest that any government can go in terms of not being very untruthful,” he stressed.
