Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, William Quaitoo, has resigned from his post.
Mr Quaitoo came under intense fire after a radio interview where he described northerners as 'liars' and 'difficult'.
Even though he apologised for his comments, the minority and other individuals demanded that he resigns.
“We think that this is grossly inadequate, insincere, hypocritical, an afterthought and therefore not deep enough to assuage the profound pain and huge damage done to the good image, integrity and respect of the people of the three Northern Regions. We accordingly call on our colleagues on the other side to join us in unconditionally and unreservedly condemning this crass ethnic bigotry exhibited by Hon. Quaittoo...Additionally, we urge all decent minded Ghanaians who cherish the unity, peace, order, stability and progress of our nation, to join us demand the immediate resignation of Hon. Quaittoo as Deputy Minister of State and Member of Parliament,” a statement from the minority said.
The lawmaker tendered in his resignation and according to the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, President Akufo Addo has accepted it.
“The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, this evening accepted the resignation from office of the Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Hon. William Quaitoo, which takes immediate effect. The President wished him the very best in his future endeavours” Eugene Arhin said in a brief statement, Tuesday, August 29.

...There's no doubt or question about what the Dep. Minister said. This is NOT NDC or NPP issue. It is the reality on the ground. It is because of their inferior mindset, that's why the statement by the Dep. Minister affected them, because they know deep within them it's the truth and they need HELP to come out of that inferiority. They wish they were influential, learned, connected and RICH as the Akans in Ghana but they WON'T GET IT! LET IT BE KNOWN TO OUR BROTHERS & SISTERS IN THE NORTH...YOU CAN'T KEEP AN AKAN MAN OR WOMAN DOWN, WE ALWAYS STAND TALL! IF WE ARE BURNT TO ASHES--WE WILL RISE AGAIN! The Dep. Minister (William Quaitoo) will NOT go home hungry or die poor, he will survive and live a luxury life. #WebHunter
***barred word*** OLD ***barred word***.NEXT TIME.RESPECT OTHER TRIBES FOR DEATH IS THERE FOR ALL TRIBES IN THIS WORLD.VILLAGE ***barred word***.
Mr Man, take heart ok, all is well(handsome)
liars and difficult truth always hurt. These northerners no it, that is why their region is under developed . instead of thinking about it they are asking for the minister's head
We don't learn as a people and a country, we only humble ourselves when we need power, Was it necessary to have said that? If you know of a madman must you tell to the face that You are a madman? No but if you have anything that will tame him you will do that. Our Leaders should behave. every journey has an END. Wealth and power is all vanity. Where is Prof. Mills, Mandela? I Watched Agyemang Duah and Jewell Acqhah and ........... what are we doing to ourselves?
BOSS YOU HAVE DONE THE HONOURABLE THING.BUT WE ALL KNOW WHAT YOU SAID IS TRUE.YOU WILL LEAVE LONG FOR TELLING THE TRUTH.GOD BLESS NANA ADDO AND THE NPP.
We still will not agree. Resignation is not enough. The President should sack him from parliament. This is the nature of the NPP. And we northerners will never rest until we see this tribalistic guy completely kicked out from every association with governance. Resignation is too easy for him. We won't agree----------
@Patrick, what the man said is the truth but only that we don't say it because we are afraid. But I like his boldness, these people don't change even if they are educated. The only thing I am not happy about is his resignation. He should have held on.
The only problem I had with him is generalizing it..but what he said is the truth...This is one part of the country Government has spent serious money trying to bring peace.. Monies that can solve alot of problems in this country because of some small issue.. for decades Government has used state resources, soldiers and police spending sleepless night to bring peace to Dagbon.. The minister has said several times on radio that the farmers who are complaining of the chemicals not reaching them should report to their district Assemblies for the chemicals to be sent to them.. In fact some of the farmers are even selling the chemicals to their colleague farmers instead directing them to go and get it themselves.. In fact some northerners are very difficult people.. look at what is happening in northern Nigeria... Very difficult people and everybody knows it.. Lets stop pretending
hahahahahaqh funny country. We all know the truth even they themselves are aware.
