The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has made a personal contribution of GH¢100,000 towards the construction of the National Cathedral.
President Akufo-Addo made the contribution when he launched the National Cathedral Fundraising Campaign, on Friday, 28th December, 2018, at the forecourt of the State House, Accra.
Delivering his remarks, the President noted that, like Solomon, at the dedication of the first temple, he knows that God cannot not be contained in a physical edifice.
“Rather, and again like Solomon on that occasion, the building of the National Cathedral is to serve as a gesture of thanksgiving to God for his blessings, favour, grace and mercies on our nation, and to give me an opportunity to redeem a pledge I made to Him before I became President,” he said.
The National Cathedral, the President explained, is more than just another piece of infrastructure or national monument.
“It will provide us with an avenue to call the nation to prayer, to worship, to celebrate, and to mourn. It will house a Bible Museum, and will be an iconic infrastructure for national, regional and international pilgrimage and tourism. It will create jobs, and serve as a catalyst for technology and skills transfer into our country,” President Akufo-Addo stressed.
He continued, “The Cathedral will also provide a platform to promote deep national conversations on the role of faith in building the progressive and prosperous Ghana we all want. I am convinced that out of these conversations would emerge the ideas and values that should help us build a new Ghanaian civilization. This is the basis on which I identify it as a personal priority.”
Reiterating his earnest wish that the building of the National Cathedral should not be a burden on the State, President Akufo-Addo noted that it was for this reason that the Christian community, home and abroad, is being mobilized in partnership to raise the needed resources to build the Cathedral.
Whilst respecting the views of those who differ with him on the matter of the construction of the Cathedral, the President indicated that “I am comforted in my decision by the vast numbers of enthusiastic supporters of this project, whose spiritual dimension is limitless.”
The President was confident that “like the statement of the Prophet Nehemiah in the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem, it is Almighty God who will prosper us and make us succeed in this endeavour. I am confident of the support of the Ghanaian people for this coalition of churches, corporations and individuals in bringing this project into fruition.”
This coalition, he added, will be a historic coalition, and the names of its supporters will be written in gold in the annals of our history
“I am proud to call myself a leading member of this coalition, and I pledge GH¢100,000 as my personal contribution,” President Akufo-Addo said.

I have been a strong believer in Nana Ado, supporting him to become president. So far, it has been a great disappointment . First his Free SHS policy was badly implemented without proper planning and strategy. They can do this by eliminating the boarding school system and make shs community based as is done even here in the USA. Let the private shs run the boarding schools system if they want. Turn all those boarding houses into classrooms and provide more furniture. You can provide free lunch for students who need it base on income of their parents. This is how you run a sustainable free SHS! Second disappointing decision of his government is the creation of 6 new regions because part of the so called big regions are not getting their fair share of development. We could simply solve the issue by relocation of the regional capitals as done every where. Creating new regions just adds unbearable cost to our budget because you have to pay new regional administrative costs I see it as creating job for the politicians. Well if we say the regions asre too big to get even distributions development, then Ghana must be too huge for the government to develop so let’s divide it in two so we can have two presidents! This is a country that is calling for a United Africa but is here further splitting it self into pieces due to incompetence! My third disappointment is the building of this national cathedral. This is a misplaced priority! We need classrooms, good roads, hospitals, and housing for workers just to name a few. I don’t hear any one crying for a place of worship, yet you decided to break down existing structures and relocate Judges to build your self pledge promise to God. You can do that by buying your own land and then build a nice cathedral for God. I done like it when government use tax payers money to fund things that will give them political advantages. That’s why I also disagree with government funding of the Muslim trip to Mecca. Welll, to even it out, our traditional religion people also need a national shrine! We Africans pray too much than putting our brains and hands to work, it’s hard times we stop looking for mana from above. This is my point of view, please forgive me if it offends you. We believe in prophecies than the truth! Thank you!
You ediocy is unparalleled. No one is saying one can fund a political party alone, what we are saying is that if he couldn't afford one billion from his pocket to support himself how come he can donate same now just two years in government. He can only do so now because he is a thieff. Simplicita!
@ Ama, I dont want to believe you are so dumb as not to understand that one cannot provide campaign money solely from one's pocket but need contribution of all supporters/believers in the ideology or message of the party. Dont get it twisted!!!
Your one of the dumbest people i have ever read from. Your father or mother probably had worked several years of his or her life and doesn't have even 5million in his or her account, but someone who was begging kayaye for campaign money just came to power for only two years and is dishing out as much as a billion for free, and you are telling me he is working, working for himself or working for Ghana. If we are judging him strictly for his words, he shouldn't even have received pay for so called work he is doing. This is the man who said he is not coming to help Ghanaians, today everyone is crying of hardship yet he has the audacity to be throwing money away. He is a conman. By the way if he has all these stolen money then he has to pay back what he collected from the kayayes for campaign 2016. When he got his stolen cash he now knows cathederal and not the kayayes.
Well done Nana leadership by example, God richly bless you. Ghana will work again in Jesus name
Ama, take this into your coconut head. Abi! is the president not working and is being paid? at least he has been in government for almost two years and he can even give out his five months pay to this noble cause. Ama don't you think is better than investing in Dubai?
At least they are putting those monies into cathedral wai not taking the monies to Dubai. Give us a break hypocrite
these are some of the reasons why ple have doubts abt the Jesus story in the bible. U want to build a cathedral to worship Jesus meanwhile Jesus we are told is still in heaven with his father and we are suffering in this country. He could not even tell u to use that money to help ur country ple and wants u to use it to build a cathedral for him. What kind of God are we worshiping? That needs a cathedral to be built for him? Well, I have no doubt that this cathedral is for the freemasons which Nana is part of himself. If he doesnt build it, they will kill kick him out of power and kill him. Mahama's come back is only a plot to push Nana to fulfill the agenda of the freemasons. A time is coming!
Is he not the one begging for money during the 2016 campaign? He was even selling his father's properties. How come in just two years in office he can afford to give 1billion old ghana cedis as donation. Where did he get that money? Is he not corrupt? Use that money to build toilets facilities around kyebi, your backyard. Thiiiieve.
