President Nana Akufo-Addo has said he promised God a National Cathedral before he became president, and will redeem that pledge.
Launching the National Cathedral Fundraising Campaign on Friday, 28 December 2018 at the forecourt of the State House, Accra, President Akufo-Addo said just as pertained to Solomon’s dedication of the first temple to God as taught by the Bible, he knows that God cannot be contained in a physical edifice.
“Rather, and again like Solomon on that occasion, the building of the National Cathedral is to serve as a gesture of thanksgiving to God for his blessings, favour, grace and mercies on our nation, and to give me an opportunity to redeem a pledge I made to Him before I became President,” he said.
The president made a personal contribution of GHS100,000 towards the construction of the edifice at the event.
The National Cathedral, the president explained, is more than just another piece of infrastructure or national monument.
“It will provide us with an avenue to call the nation to prayer, to worship, to celebrate, and to mourn. It will house a Bible Museum, and will be an iconic infrastructure for national, regional and international pilgrimage and tourism. It will create jobs, and serve as a catalyst for technology and skills transfer into our country,” President Akufo-Addo stressed.
He continued, “The Cathedral will also provide a platform to promote deep national conversations on the role of faith in building the progressive and prosperous Ghana we all want. I am convinced that out of these conversations would emerge the ideas and values that should help us build a new Ghanaian civilization. This is the basis on which I identify it as a personal priority.”
Reiterating his earnest wish that the building of the National Cathedral should not be a burden on the state, President Akufo-Addo noted that it was for this reason that the Christian community, home and abroad, is being mobilised in partnership to raise the needed resources to build the Cathedral.
Whilst respecting the views of those who differ with him on the matter of the construction of the Cathedral, the President indicated that: “I am comforted in my decision by the vast numbers of enthusiastic supporters of this project, whose spiritual dimension is limitless.”
The President was confident that “like the statement of the Prophet Nehemiah in the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem, it is Almighty God who will prosper us and make us succeed in this endeavour. I am confident of the support of the Ghanaian people for this coalition of churches, corporations and individuals in bringing this project into fruition.”
This coalition, he added, will be a historic coalition, and the names of its supporters will be written in gold in the annals of our history
“I am proud to call myself a leading member of this coalition, and I pledge GHS100,000 as my personal contribution,” President Akufo-Addo said.

God bless you Mr. President. I support you in this direction. When our pastors pray for us to succeed we buy cars for them how much the God we serve.
What is your beef? The girl is only asking a legitimate question and nana addo answer. Was he really a weeee smoker? People have rumored about this several times but he hasnt address it, so now weeee smokers are building God cathedral. Good for him.
Mr. President kindly find a land somewhere and save your salary towards the construction of this building. Christians are not the only people paying taxes. Redeem your pledge by saving your salary for it please. We don't want a situation where another president will come and say He or She promised the devil a National Shrine or National Pegan Temple.
NANA, THANK GOD YOU DID NOT FORGOT THE PLEDGE YOU MADE WHEN CAMPAIGNING.IT IS YOUR VISION, YOU HAVE STEP FORWARD AND I BELIEVE ALL WHO LOVE GOD WILL JOIN YOU TO BUILD THIS EDIFICE TO GOD.WHEN JACOB WAS RUNNING AWAY FROM HIS TWIN BROTHER HE ALSO MADE A PLEDGE TO GOD HE SPEND OVER TWENTY YEARS IN EXILE, IN HIS RETURN HE REMEMBERD AND BUILD AN ALTER TO GOD. THE GOD WHO HELPED YOU CLIMB THE THRONE WILL SEE YOU THROUGH.HE WILL NOT REJECT YOU AS HE DID TO SOME OF YOUR PREDECESSORS. NANA CONTINUE TO LOVE GOD AND HE WILL DIRECT YOUR WAYS.
Read Isaiah chapter 66. Which god? did you make the promise to.
You are a president and not a King for God sake. Prioritize, what the nation wants and not your freaking promised to an unknown God.
u are right. if nana is not able to build this cathedral for the freemasons, they will kick him out and possibly kill him. if u think ur votes count towards who becomes our president, then ask mahama why he wants to come back. Which God will be pleased to see his ple suffer whilst money is being used to build a temple for him? by the way, is it not the same suffering citizens that will go into the temple to worship him? will he be happy seeing hungry faces worshiping him? We are all grateful to our creator for life every day and will forever be. but we need to get our priorities right. even the bible says God helps those who helps themselves. it doesnt say God helps those who help him build temple. I would not mind if it is the church that wants to do this but for the president to say its his promise to God sends some wrong signals abt the actual purpose.
That's very unfair to the Ghanaian tax payers. You made a personal pledge when you weren't a president but you want to transfer the cost of fulfilling that pledge to the state by DEMOLISHING STATE OWNED HOUSES OF THE CITIZENRY. You are setting a bad example for the people to emulate .
But to what use or relevance will it be if it is built on just any other bare land? It has to be on that particular land because it serves a unique purpose. For Christ sakes it's the temple of God. And for those who say God does not need a building to dwell in please the president already said it..but it's a sign to show gratitude..are we then saying that because God is soo big that nothing can move him,we should not thank and worship him ?why are people soo myopic... Nana we are behind u... Mr President please note that this is the only one thing that will Gurantee ur second term in office...I have spoken as the Oracle of EL-ELEON
He who is without sin let him or her cast the first stone. Even Saul he became Paul. He is delivering on his premises so whether he has smoked wee before or not it's immaterial here. Your evil party NDC bribe and influence these three insiders with money and after getting them out what was the results. May God touch your evil and blasphemy heart.
