Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Nadowli-Kaleo constituency, Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has stated emphatically that Ghana has lost its democratic credentials and is rather being governed by an "elected dictator".
According to him, there are some weakness and lapses in the constitution which needs to be amended.
Speaking to Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia Programme, he proposed that there should be an urgent discussion for constitutional reforms to scrap off some of the powers of the President if the country is indeed committed to practicing true democracy.
“The time is right for us to update our constitution; it is too voluminous as compared to UK and other countries."
The President appoints everybody, the President is the head of the party, the President is the head of government, the President decides the budget, the President can decide even though you have approved the money for an item they won’t release the money and you can’t do anything. Is that democracy? No!” he stated.
“We have elected dictators. That is what we have set up in the constitution. There is no difference between them and the military leaders”, he disclosed.
He also indicated that governance in the country irrespective of the government in power has been taken as a joke.
“When people lose hope in good governance, they resort to anything and we can’t allow things to continue this way,” he stressed.

CAN WE ALL COME TOGETHER AND EDIT THAT CONSTITUTION FOR ONCE???
Thus exactly what we want; we don't need weak leaders like you claim are in your party to destroy Ghana further, enough is enough.I like your honesty,NDC leaders are the weakest to rule Ghana.
When you, the then verandah boys and girls and butchers, were bundled up into the constituent assembly to draft a Constitution to suite Jerry Rawlings you thought you were smart. You also thought he will rule forever! The NPP complained bitterly but you stood your grounds. How sad that it has taken some of you 26 years in parliament before realising this! What a pity for such a slow learner to aspire to be President! Surely, this can only happen in the NDC.
If there were to be a Nobel prize for loose talk, this my northern brother would have been the first recipient. Bagbin has lost respect ever since he join the NDC presidential aspirants race.A friend told me to seperate his name and see something.I got Bag and bin and he said you know what bag and bin for. They are for garbage.
Bagbin you soo selfish. Look the way you are talking bcos you want to become a president. Shamee. You have lost the respect I have for you.
Long time you are in parliament even still, what proposal did you make on that issue, selfishness will kill you. Even it is not too late, why can't you present something on that issue now to the parliament to begin deliberating on it, because of selfishness and by all means wanted to be president you are saying those chaffs. You have failed already. Shame on you for not started doing something about it, why you wanted to be come president before changing the laws?
Bagbin, I will not even call you honourable. How many years have you been in parliament? What have you done in your constituency? All you have done is enrich yourself in the process. Your constituency should have been one to spite others with the years in parliament but alas, nothing. “We have elected dictators" was this the case when you were in government and held a ministerial positions and been in parliament all these years? What hypo.cracy!!!! This is not a mark of an honest person to lead in anything. Shame on you!!!. I pray nobody votes for this man for he is not worth it.
