The Ghana Police Service has debunked claims that one person has been reported dead in the Ayawaso West Wuogon bye election held on Thursday.
In a statement the police said six people have been injured following the gunshots and not seven as reported by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
"Calm has been restored to the area and the six injured persons are responding to treatment at the Legon and 37 military hospitals. Further, the Inspector-General of Police has directed the Director-General/Criminal Investigation Department to speed up investigation into the incident.
The general public, especially voters and residents of the constituency are encouraged to remain calm and go about their duties freely without fear as more police officers have been deployed to ensure law and order" the statement added.
