Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam Nartey George, has said he does not feel safe in the country, adding that, he does not trust the Ghana police service either.
The lawmaker’s comments come after he was assaulted by a well-built man believed to be from the national security in Accra during Thursday’s Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.
Sam George was slapped in the face after series of gunshots at the La-Bawaleshie Presby JHS polling station caused a commotion.
Reacting to his assault on Class FM on Thursday, 31 January 2019, he said he does not feel safe in the country.
Mr George said: “The police were present when the assault was going on and they did nothing. The police itself has also stated clearly that they are unaware of the people who were using their vehicle. So, if the police cannot protect their own armoured personnel and the police were armed and I was being assaulted and the police did not deem it necessary to intervene, I cannot trust that police service to do any kind of investigation.”
Asked if he felt safe, Mr George said: “I’ll not lie about this, I do not feel safe in this country today. The shock and disbelieve that men who were in National Security Council attire, heavily armed in Ghana police vehicle, the Police Service of Ghana says they don’t know who they are. These men attacked me. When I was being attacked, a media man said: ‘that’s an MP’ and the guy said and so what? And the Police of Ghana, over 20 of them, armed, stood by and watched. Just imagine that a police officer in U.S will attack a senator, that’s impossible.”
Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante Apeatu has directed the Director-General/Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to speed up investigations into the cause of the shooting.

Move to Togo!!!! ***barred word*** like you.
First of all how in the hell you compare your Ghana to the USA where no one is above the LAW including the president. The USA have law abiding citizen while Ghana there is no law including you Sam .
There are no 1diots like Sam George in the US senate so there is no way a police officer will attack a senator. This guy has so soon forgotten how used the military and police to torment ET Mensah and his opponents in the recent past. Someone lost an eye and that summering Joe Omane Boamah and the NDC said it was tin tomato paste that was used to paint his eye. He should have been slapped harder. Oooofuiiii!
let common sense prevail and lets us all take the necessary steps to pull back from the abyss. Slowly but surely we are destroying our country in the name of politics
Spot on, Crosby! It's unfortunate the parliamentarian was subjected to such beatings. However, he needs to also check his actions.
Sam George you are even lucky, I think you should even thank your God for just two slaps. someone lost his eyes on just going to demonstrate his right about elections process. next time you will think twice when in power position has changed.
'Woakye wo Ghana. Namenim se woatudaaada'. NdC is JUST on a mission to CRATE drama and say Ghana is not safe. If Ghana is not save for them, it is save for us. CRIMINALS!
You never see a US senator behave the way Sam did. Even US senator are arrested at times. You will be asked to resign from parliament if you were in the US. Same to Muntaka and Ken.
Herr akoa yi 3gy.imi lol this boy needs a reality check! First of all, did those hands that slap you feel American or Ghanaian? Was it soft or HARD from pounding fufu? Sam George, Sam George, Sam George, you are in Ghanao, You are in Ghanaoo, You are in Ghanaooo! That slap should have woken you up from your American dream! Use your commonsense otherwise with this your sharp teeth they will beat you everyday. Didn't you see the immigration officer and the other policeman running away? As for Ghana police and military, their "good morning" is slapping while American police will give you a cup of tea. Don't behave like a stubborn cat.
Much as I dont condone beastial behaviour, I also want sam George go understand that legislators in the USA dont approach the security personnel menacingly
