Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam Nartey George, has said he does not feel safe in the country, adding that, he does not trust the Ghana police service either.
The lawmaker’s comments come after he was assaulted by a well-built man believed to be from the national security in Accra during Thursday’s Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.
Sam George was slapped in the face after series of gunshots at the La-Bawaleshie Presby JHS polling station caused a commotion.
Reacting to his assault on Class FM on Thursday, 31 January 2019, he said he does not feel safe in the country.
Mr George said: “The police were present when the assault was going on and they did nothing. The police itself has also stated clearly that they are unaware of the people who were using their vehicle. So, if the police cannot protect their own armoured personnel and the police were armed and I was being assaulted and the police did not deem it necessary to intervene, I cannot trust that police service to do any kind of investigation.”
Asked if he felt safe, Mr George said: “I’ll not lie about this, I do not feel safe in this country today. The shock and disbelieve that men who were in National Security Council attire, heavily armed in Ghana police vehicle, the Police Service of Ghana says they don’t know who they are. These men attacked me. When I was being attacked, a media man said: ‘that’s an MP’ and the guy said and so what? And the Police of Ghana, over 20 of them, armed, stood by and watched. Just imagine that a police officer in U.S will attack a senator, that’s impossible.”
Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante Apeatu has directed the Director-General/Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to speed up investigations into the cause of the shooting.

I can’t stop laughing at the comments. My evening has been made.
You hide behind being MP to always misbehave. This is not USA. It is Ghana. Get that reality and stop the ***barred word***!! The guy should removed a tooth. Nansis!!!!
Honorable, Sorry for your small slap. But I think in the US senators behave like civilised human beings and not like un-trained heads hanging on tree stumps. I have always been against police brutalities but I think this one was use of minimal force. Senators are not super human beings. They need to obey the laws they make. I would have been ashamed to have a person like you as my rep in Parliament.
Sam you are lucky to be in Ghana, if you were a Senator in the USA, you would have been called upon to resign. If you did not resign, you would have been voted out by your own party members. Check the US elections and we vote people out for just being ***barred word*** to votersas it happened recently in Alabama. Check Florida, for just being seen along with people conjectured to be rigging the vote , he is not being seated even though he won. You are lucky to be in Ghana and if you think you are too wise, just leave the country for us.
Just leave. It is only in ghana that the likes of you can be in parliament. we are better off without your likes.
Can A Senator In U.S insult and taunt A Police Officer? ***barred word*** MP. I condemn de attacks and the violence even though it happened around ur candidates residence but ur statement have soo many gaps. U and ur party are not trust worthy. Learn to speak the truth small wai
Arrogant you can't compare yourself to US senator look at the way you were shouting on the police is good they thought you a lesson next with slaps next time you will know how to talk
Big yes
Mr George! What do you expect when you disobey the very laws you make? Can a law maker also insult, disrespect and malign police officers in the US? You cannot eat your cake and have it. Next time conduct yourself well in public and earn the respect of a law maker!
Yes Sam George, A police Man in the USA can attack a senator if the so called senator is 1) A f-001,2) Behaves less deserving of senator, 3) He is a $hamel£ss l1ar, 4) A Scheming t-wa+ and 5) a du-mb a$$ mudda-f-uc-k£r. And if you care to know, in USA, policemen do worse to unarmed black people. They k1ll them for now reason. So count your black a$$ very lucky to be in a tolerant place where you only get a slap for your $+up!dity Sam George. And if you care to know, you fit perfectly into all the above description.
