The Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante has described as 'unfortunate' comments made by former President John Mahama on happenings at the Ayawaso By-election, Thursday.
The former President while addressing delegates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Adaklu Constituency of the Volta Region said:
"I want to sound a caution that NDC has a revolutionary root and when it comes to unleashing violence, no one can beat us to that. It is just that we are mindful of this country’s democracy and that is why we must be the first to respect it. That is why we are acting as a party that is docile and respecting the rule of law. But if we believe that the government cannot protect our people and we believe that the government is using its vigilante groups and illegal forces to intimidate and harass and injure our people, then we may have to advise ourselves.
We respect the Constitution of this country and the NDC is a democratic party and that’s why we abide by the rules of the Constitution. But the same Constitution says that Ghanaians should resist anybody who attempts to subvert the Constitution. When you go rampaging with forces and intimidating people when they should come out and vote, you are subverting the Constitution. And we have a right to resist you.”
John Mahama was reacting to a shooting incident that took place at La-Bawaleshie JHS polling station in the course of the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency by-election, Thursday.
The shooting led to the injuring of seven members of the NDC and a subsequent pull-out of the party from the by-elections.
The Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante speaking in an interview on the Executive Breakfast Show (EBS) on Class91.3FM on Friday, noted “if President John Mahama did say what he said, then it is very unfortunate because he has been a head of state, he has been the president of the nation, he is vying for his party to make him the presidential candidate, and if the people of Ghana want him again, he could become the president of this nation. And if it is going to be ‘boot-for-boot’ for the nation to be on fire, then there is no mercy for anybody. And I think it is unfortunate that in anger, such things should be said. I pray and I want to believe that he didn’t mean it, he did it out of anger. We have to be very circumspect and under such circumstances watch the things that we say".

ALL THE FOO*LISH BODY AFFILIATED TO THE NPP ARE BEGINNING TO TALK. NO WONDER SOME OF YOU ARE GAYS AND INDULGING IN SO MUCH IMMO*RALITY IN YOUR CHURHES. CHRISTIANITY IN GHANA IS ONE OF HYPOCRISY AND A MONEY MAKING VENTURE. THE VIRTUES OF JESUS CHRIST HAVE BEEN THROWN INTO THE DRAINS AND ONLY EVIL IS SOARING VERY HIGH. I AM SO SAD I EVER GOT BAPTISED AS A CHRISTIAN. THESE ARE NOT PEOPLE TO BRING SOULS TO CHRIST.
Peace council indeed! instead of you calling on the government to stop vigilante groups look at the loose talk you are suggesting? You are the worst pastor ever.
What are they talking about. Is it only the NDC that so-called Clergy can condemn? Please condemn NPP for yesterday's ***barred word*** before you condemn Mahama. Respect yourself as Clergymen as called by God. ***barred word***.
I personally believe there is no HEAVEN as well as HELL, if these two exist as we are being made to believe then i can confidently say that all members of the christian and for that matter peace council especially Prof. Asante will go to hell because of the hypocrisy that he/they always exhibit, In fact, i can't believe this. There is a by-election, one party send thugs to go and beat their opponents and even shoot some of them, the peace council have not issued any statement let alone condemning the action and when another person said they will match them boot-for-boot, the peace council chairman has quickly asked him to apologize for the comment, what about those who were sent to go and beat and shoot. Please, this actually below the belt. Thanks
When one party does it, they are quiet. When the other responds, then they recover their voices. Yoooo!
Yes revolutionary root indeed. That is women were stripped naked and private parts opened and lashed by your soo called revolutionary operatives. I have not seen a leader with loose talks like you Mahama before. I.N. COMPETENT BEING.
I find this unfair from the peace council, what are you people saying about the invisible forces that came to the polling stations? Where did they get the aminitions from? Ghana is sitting on time bomb and it will soon explode.....this favouritism and partialism must stop.....I am disappoint you did not mention a word of what happen yesterday but rather attack Mahama over something which is yet to come..... why come you guys did not condenmed what what the other party did. I am sad peace council did not see anything bad about what the invisible forces did but rather accusing Mahama fof what he said. God is watching us all. God bless our homeland Ghana
***barred word***.WHEN NPP WAS DOING IT DID U PEOPLE SAY IS UNFORTUNATE.THIS CHRISTIAN COUNCIL ARE FULL OF HYPOCITES AND HUNGRY MEN OF GOD.U CANT CONDERM WHAT NPP IS DOING BUT RATHER TALKING ABOUT JM.ALLAH SAVE US COS I KNW AND IN SHAA ALLAH JM WILL BOUNCE BACK.CHRISTIAN COUNCIL INDEED
