Former Minister for Local Government and Rural Development and Member of Parliament for Asutifi South, Collins Dauda has expressed his appreciation to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo for the creation of the new Ahafo region.
"We are grateful to him for announcing Goaso as the capital. Though we were not worried about where the capital would go, the President’s decision to use Goaso as the capital is very apt and very well appreciated," he said in an interview on Peace FM.
Speaking in an interview with Peace FM News, he explained that Goaso is very well developed in-terms of infrastructure and having it as capital will accelerate the development process of the Ahafo region.
In a related development, former deputy Education Minister and former Member of Parliament for Techiman North, Alex Kyeremeh says they are really excited about the creation of the new Bono East region.
He says the Bono East region has come at the right time and at a time when development needs to travel across the country.
He however added that Techiman being the capital will help in the development processes of the new region, considering the fact that Techiman is very well developed.
President Akufo-Addo speaking at a ceremony to present Constitutional Instrument (C.I.) 113 for the creation of the Bono East and Ahafo Regions at the Jubilee House in Accra Wednesday, 13 February, 2019, said an amount of GHC20m each has been allocated for the new regions.
President Akufo-Addo also named Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Evans Opoku-Bobie as the caretaker minister for the newly-created Ahafo and Bono East Regions until a substantive minister is appointed.
So far, four of the new regions have received their capital towns. They are:
North East Region – Nalerigu
Savannah Region – Damongo
Bono East – Techiman
Ahafo Region - Goaso
