The Minority in Parliament has threatened to file a vote of censure against the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Alan Kyerematen for “disrespecting” parliament.
Mr Kyerematen was expected to appear before the house on Tuesday, 26 February 2019 to answer some questions but did not show up for the third consecutive time.
Mr Kyerematen’s absence irked the Minority caucus with that side’s Chief Whip, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak describing the minister's action as deliberate and disrespectful to the house.
He, thus, threatened to initiate a vote of censure against the minister.
“I must say this is worrying. In February alone, the Minister for Trade and Industry has written three times for his question to be deferred. Mr Speaker, there’s some deliberateness because when the president was here to read the state of the nation address, all of them found time to be here. They prioritise coming to sit here so that the president will see them in parliament,” Mr Mubarak said in his address on the floor of parliament on Tuesday.
“Mr Speaker, for a minister, in a space of just one month, to have sought permission for his question to be postponed three times, three times! Mr Speaker, I just want to serve notice I will come with a motion of censure because the minister doesn’t want to be a minister because he doesn’t respect this house, he doesn’t want to come and answer to the people,” he added.
The Deputy Majority Leader, Sarah Adwoa Safo, however, informed the house that the minister has written to parliament seeking permission to travel to the UK with Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for an economic summit.
According to her, since the minister is out of the jurisdiction, the question should be rescheduled to Friday, 1 March 2019.

The Minority in Parliament can sanction the whole Government machinery but that cannot make them form a government. Some MPs are becoming too noisy especially Muntaka.
SOME PERSONS IN GHANA THINK THAT YOU CAN DO ANYTHING WHEN IDENTIFY WITH A PARTY AND MORE SO WHEN YOU BECOME A MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT. THE PARLIAMENT IS NOT A LICENSE FOR FOOLHARDYYY AND UNPRODUCTIVE LIFE. EMIL SHORT'S COMMISSION, AMONG OTHER THINGS, SHOW CLEARLY THAT SOME MPS DO NOT DESERVE TO BE IN THE HOUSE FOR THE REASONS SUCH BELOW. 1. UNPATRIOTICCC AND LYIESSS.--- WHY SHOULD AN MP CLAIM TO MISTRUST THE MEN HE IDENTIFIES AS NATIONAL SECURITY TO THE EXTENT OF OBSTRUCTING THEIR WORK. HE RATHER INTERFERES WITH THE CHAIN OF COMMAND FOR OPERATION TO ISSUE COUNTER COMMAND IN FAVOUR OF A GROUP HE CLAIMS NOT TO IDENTIFY NOR THEIR PURPOSE KNOWN. SUCH ACTION BY ANYBODY IS CLEARLY UNPATRIOTICC UNLESS HE WAS LYINGGGG. 2. MISCHIEVOUSSS AND LIESSS: THE MP CLAIMS OF HIS OPPONENTS DUBBING IN NATIONAL SECURITY TO KILL A PERSON IN HIS OWN HOUSE. THE MAN HE CLAIMED TO BE DEAD WAS NOT DEAD. HE WAS INJURED. HE DID NOT COME FROM THE PLACE. HE HAD BEEN BROUGHT TO THE PLACE FROM ELSEWHERE TO PERFORM A DUTY WHICH NONE OF THE PEOPLE IN HIS PARTY FOR THAT CONSTITUENCY COULD NOT DO. IT IS THAT DUTY THE NATIONAL SECURITY CONSIDERED UNWARRANTED POSING SECURITY THREATS TO THE DAY'S ACTIVITY IN THE CONSTITUENCY, THE ELECTION. THE MP ALSO SAID SEVERAL GUN FIRE WAS DIRECTED AT HIM BY NATIONAL SECURITY OPERATIVES, SOME OF WHOM HE HAD CONVERSED WITH AND WALKED TOGETHER TO RESOLVE SOME DIFFERENCES. HE ALSO CLAIMS HE ESCAPED WITHOUT ANY HARM FROM THE SEVERAL GUN SHORTS DIRECTED AT HIM FOR THE SKILLS OBTAINED IN WATCHING ACTION FILMS. 3.RIDICULOUSSS AND LYINGGG -- PREVAILING ON NATIONAL SECURITY OPERATIVES TO PROVIDE HIM AN UNKNOWN KEY FOR HIM TO GIVE TO AN UNKNOWN PERSONS FOR AN UNKNOWN PURPOSE. IN FACT BY THIS CLAIM HE MADE, HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN ARRESTED AND NOT GIVEN JUST TWO SLAPS. HE WAS A NUISANCEEE AND A THREAT TO NATIONAL SECURITY OPERATION. EVERYTHING ABOUT HIM WAS RADICULOUS AND LIES. 4.FOOLHARDYYYYY AND PROVOCATIVE-----HE INSULTED AND DARED NATIONAL SECURITY OPERATIVES. FOR HIM HE HAD THE RIGHT TO DO THAT BECAUSE HE IS MP, MORE HUMAN AND IMPORTANT THAN OTHERS. HE HAD THEREFORE THE RIGHT TO INSULT AND PROVOKE THE OPERATIVES OF NATIONAL SECURITY, WHO BY HIS DESCRIPTION WERE UNTRAINED NONENTITYYY. PERHAPS HE WAS EXPECTING THEM AFTER INSULTING AND DARING THEM TO SALUTE HIM FOR THE DENIGRATIONNN, THE MP, IN ALL HIS ACTIONS AND UTTERANCES, WAS OBNOXIOUSS, AN ATTITUDE WHICH CANNOT BE COUNTENANCE IN ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD AGAINST THE SECURITY FORCES DETAILED FOR AN OPERATION. YOU CANNOT EXHIBIT SUCH POSTURE WITHOUT ARREST AND REPREHENSION IN MANY COUNTRIES BUT GHANA . IT CANNOT HAPPEN IN CHINA, AMERICA, RUSSIA, UK, PHILIPPINES, AUSTRALIA, SOUTH AFRICA NOR TURKEY. IT SHOULD NOT BE ENTERTAINED IN GHANA. WE SHOULD NOT UNDULY SHIELD POLITICIANS FROM RESPONSIBILITY AND CIVILITY. SUCH MP MUST BE REMOVED FROM PARLIAMET TO SAVE THE NATION FROM UNPRODUCTIVITY AND WASTE.
