Seasoned Journalist Kwesi Pratt Jnr has expressed skepticism of the reasons adduced by the country's Electoral Commission necessitating the compilation of a new voters’ register.
The EC among the several reasons given justifying the need for a new voters’ register, also claimed the current electoral roll is bloated.
But the Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper consider the reasons as not tangible enough.
“I still don’t understand this debate surrounding the new voters’ register. The EC claims the voters register is credible and if so why do we need to change it? Then they claim they are adding facial recognition…other views claim the facial recognition is inferior to fingerprints and so on…another reason is that the register is overbloated because it contains list of several deceased persons; but that is not a justifiable reason because people keep dying every time…it’s a bad and infantile argument," Kwesi Pratt, who was speaking on Peace FM morning show 'Kokrokoo' said.
To him, the brouhaha surrounding the voters’ register is as a result of the fact that the EC did not demonstrate neutrality in the process leading up to the announcement of its intention to do away with the current register.
Meanwhile, the EC has set April 18th 2020 for new voter register compilation.
