Deputy Information Minister, Pius Enam Hadzide says John Dramani Mahama's quest to be President again has compelled him to become a “serial liar”.
According to him, his recent allegation of the Nana Addo-led government attempt to sell off 66% of the Ghana Airports Company to a foreign partner is the “biggest lie” ever to be told by a former President.
“He knows for sure that what he is saying is not true. Such allegation shouldn’t come from him [Mahama]. This is a work of NDC serial callers, not a former President,” he said in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’.
John Mahama condemns 66% sale of Kotoka Airport to a private firm
Speaking in an interview on Woezor TV, John Mahama noted that with airports being the pride of most countries, government’s decision to hand over more than 50% of the aviation company to a Turkish company, TAM-SUMMA Consortium is not prudent and must be stopped.
He claimed that the country’s premier airport was valued at more than GH¢5 billion while boasting that the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) was among the five best airports in Africa under his tenure.
“When we were in office, a valuation study of the Kotoka Airport was done and it was valued at over GH¢ 5 billion. It also had an insured value in the region of GH¢3 to GH¢4 billion because a lot of money had been invested in the airport and it had become one of the five best airports in Africa,” he said
Bemoaning the partnership, he described the move by government as “strange” to cede a chunk of the airport to the Turkish company in exchange for US$70 million.
“[Now we are seeing] a strange development where a Turkish company is being given the airport; to take over the airport and run it. For US$70 million we are giving 66% of the airport to a Turkish company. We are against it. It is wrong,” Mahama noted
False allegation
Pius Hadzide however rubbished Mahama’s claims and insisted “what he [Mahama] is saying is never true. He cannot justify this claim. ”
Kotoka International Airport is 'not for sale' - Ghana Airports to Mahama
Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) also in a statement has reiterated its earlier explanation that the Kotoka International Airport is "not for sale or being privatised" as alleged by former President John Dramani Mahama.
"An unsolicited proposal has been received from a Turkish Consortium which is yet to be considered. It is rather unfortunate that certain figures from the proposal are being used to peddle untruths," the GACL said in a statement in reaction a claim made by former President John Dramani Mahama in a television interview with Woezor.
