Bernard Allotey Jacobs has called on the leadership of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to amicably settle any dispute with the Dome/Kwabenya Member of Parliament(MP), Sarah Adwoa Safo.
Hon. Adwoa Safo, who is also the Gender Minister, is currently based in the USA and has refused to return to Parliament.
Adwoa Safo's Demands
The MP is said to have demanded that the Deputy Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, should be removed and his position handed over to her before she makes a return.
She is also said to have threatened the party by saying she will not participate in the voting on the e-levy if her demand is not met by the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Chief Of Staff Delivers Ghc 120k To Adwoa Safo
However, according to Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, the Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare gave him GHC 120,000 to put into Adwoa Safo's bank account as a ploy to convince her to come back but the MP has still refused to rescind her decision.
“The Chief of Staff called me and I went, I swear [on] my mother’s grave, Chief of Staff gave me ¢120,000 and deposited into Adwoa Safo’s Fidelity Bank account.
“I took the money there into the Fidelity Account, ask her personal assistant if what I am saying is not the truth,” a furious Kennedy Agyapong said on Asaase radio.
Adwoa Safo, The Saboteur
According to him, Adwoa Safo is sabotaging the NPP.
“Now we are in opposition, the way Adwoa Safo is treating the party, it is clearly showing that we are in opposition and this shouldn’t be tolerated at all,” he snapped.
She Is Hurt
Addressing the issue on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', Mr. Allotey Jacobs opined that lawyer Sarah Adwoa Safo is pained by the party, hence her sudden change of behaviour.
Seeking to find out what the NPP may have done to hurt her, he asked if she wasn't content with her removal as Deputy Majority Leader and elevated to the Gender, Children and Social Protection Ministry.
Allotey Jacobs sought clarifications on the processes that characterized the appointment of the Dome/Kwabenya MP as Gender Minister, questioning "was she satisfied?"
"We are all human beings. I'm very sure Adwoa Safo is in pains," he stated.
To him, the MP may not have been happy with her new appointment, therefore using this opportunity as payback against her own party.
''The payback time is that now she is the center around which the e-levy, when taken to Parliament, they will get a majority'', he expounded.
He called on the party leadership to use all means necessary including consulting Adwoa Safo's biological father to talk to her daughter in order to quash any hurtful feelings that may be the underlying tone for the MP's behavior.
''There is the need for government and party to try hard to manage the girl. Find a way out. I won't say they should apologize to her, she's too young for that but she must know the essence of politics and why she entered into politics and the dangers in politics. Someone must guide her in all these things'', he advised.
