The Deputy Minister of Education, Gifty Twum Ampofo, has urged the youth to be entrepreneurs and stop looking for jobs in the public sector.
According to her, "one thing I've realized in this country is that everybody wants to work in the public sector and they also want to become rich, but I've not seen any government worker become rich before . . . the rich people are in the private sector and that is why government has introduced the Ghana job and skills project and Youstart".
Gifty Twum Ampofo who is also the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North Constituency speaking during a panel discussion on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo' urged the youth to form joint ventures.
"The youth are highly ambitious, they have to be realistic . . . they can form joint ventures and they can move forward. It'll be impossible for government to employ all of these graduates in the public sector," she added.

Kwabena, a successful business woman leaving the private sector to enter politics but turns round to encourage others to venture into the private sector because that's where the money is. Why will one leave something that he/she is successful in to go into something that is uncertain, full of insults, hatred, life threatening etc. People know what's in despite these vices. Fact is politics is good business in Ghana. You equally need your head examined for running away from the truth. If you get the ladies position today you will go in , why?
Madam please politician in gov are also are gov workersoo but they are making it .
Madam some public sector workers are very rich ooo but the issue is their riches is from STOLEN money. CORRUPTION fitaaaaa paaaaaa.
@Kwabena, SAY IT AGAIN!!! Any politician who is considered and known to be rich and doesn't have a notable and transparent private enterprise on the side is most most probably feeding corruptly on the public.
Bogobiri, The Minister is right. She is a politician and ventured into politics after successes in the private sector. Enter into private business, take on some risks, and if you succeed, the RICHES will be your own. If you want to be rich in government employment because some DCE or Minister is rich, then you need your head examined. Your thinking is a classic case of faulty comparison. It only leads you asttray.
Madam Gifty, i disagree, ministers, MMDCEs, CEO's are government workers are are not only rich but very rich. You saw the same private sector and decided to contest for MP in addition to being appointed a deputy minister, you don't pay for accommodation, fuel, water, electricity, driver, security. With all these free things you still have clothing allowance, entertainment allowance, travel allowance, you don't buy food. In your office you are provided with what ever beverages you want, coffee, milo, tea, milk, sugar etc. Even Alico Dangote, the richest man in Africa don't get all these for free, he has to buy from his pocket. I thought you should have been encouraging the youth to also go into politics because that's the only place you do virtually nothing but get everything.
