The Electoral Commission of Ghana has dispelled reports that it took a unilateral decision on a new Constitutional Instrument (C.I.) on voters' registration which has been laid before Parliament.
The EC wants to use the Ghana Card as the only source document for continuous voter registration.
However, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and other stakeholders have opposed this decision insisting it will disenfranchise a lot of Ghanaians.
Others have questioned why the EC didn't engage various stakeholders before coming out with the decision.
But speaking in an interview on Neat FM's 'Me Man Nti' programme, Dr Bossman Asare, Deputy Chairman of the Commission in charge of Corporate Services, said the Commission met with all stakeholders except the NDC.
He indicated that the NDC was invited to IPAC meetings held on the issue but failed to attend.
"We met with all the political parties and other stakeholders to deliberate on using the Ghana card to register,
it was unanimously agreed . . . NDC was invited but they didn't attend . . ." he pointed out.
Meanwhile, the NDC has vowed to use all legitimate means to oppose the decision by the Electoral Commission (EC) to use the Ghana Card as the sole identification document for voter registration.

The problem we have as Ghanaians is trying to find false with every initiative we intend to take to make lives better for us just because it is not being implemented by a certain group. Why is more better than allowing the Ghana card to take its rightful place in determining who we elect? EC must not look back at this decision, it is the best ever. The fear of disenfranchising people is neither here nor there. Because, not every body with Voter ID card even go to the pools to vote. Afari Gyan has done his part, we are grateful but he should go and sit somewhere and relax and watch the new generation of electoral officers work. Wisdom does not reside in Afari Gyan alone.
Ghana's major problem is the NDC...Ghana is better off without these bunch of retrogressives and nation wreckers, always thinking only of power, to fill stomach and amass wealth. They live all their lives on politics so they see power as do or die. EC must forget about them and carry out their legitimate duties to deepen our democracy.
Why did the government reverse the decision to hold a referendum to amend a portion of the constitution to allow for election of MMDCEs?
The EC doesn’t need the approval of political parties or stakeholders in order to perform their duties. If the NDC feel too big to attend a courtesy meeting, they should ignore them. Ghana is bigger than NDC. It’s on record that the NDC has never proposed any improvement on our electoral process since we started voting. Left to them alone, Ghana will still be using black and white photos and opaque ballots box so that they can cheat.
Ndc is the downfall of Ghana, they always think of power without thinking about Ghanaians, Ghana card identifies you as a Ghanaian, just go and register and get your card without paying for it has become a problem, how ?? .You can’t register as a voter in any developed country without being a citizen of that country so what’s the problem now? National destroyers criminals (NDC) what is your policy for the global economic challenges now? Ghanaians has over 2 years to the elections, just advise the people to get the Ghana card before the continuous registration. Ndc initially said the EC is going to abundant the old register to compile a new register that turned out to be false, those Incharge of the elections called for IPAC meeting which majority of the parties agreed to use the Ghana card for continuous registration which you refused to attend the meeting and after they have agreed you are there talking rubbish, Ghanaians would definitely reject you guys again because you don’t have the country at heart, trying all means to destroy the good work the president is doing for mother Ghana. God blessed NPP.
Go to Court if you think the actions of the EC is unlawful.
