Former Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan has raised an objection against former President John Dramani Mahama to stand for re-election.
Former President John Mahama has filed his nomination to become flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress for the second time and is seeking to become President again.
But Kwamena Duncan has vehemently resented this move, stressing it is an aberration of the 1992 Constitution.
Reading portions of the constitution on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' programme, he argued that Mr. Mahama is already enjoying the constitutional benefits of a former President and cannot come back for more.
The constitution, he said, "is not discriminating amongst whichever way you became a past President. It is not! That for your emoluments, for your pension, whether you resigned or you were removed as President from office or you were only successful for a term; you must have your pension . . . it cannot be that for a system somebody is packaged a pension, he's been given his pension . . . and being treated as former President . . . I cannot see how in the pubic service, someone goes on pension and by certain arrangement, he comes back again into office and then he works to another pension".
He added;"This constitution is not envisaging that when someone becomes a past President where he has his pension, he will come back again and serve as President and be given another pension."
" . . how can you have a system where somebody could have two pensions?", he questioned.

Hahahaaaa, after retirement your employer can give you a contract to continue working. In the public sector some workers who are to retire have their stay at work extended by one to two years. I'm n the case of John Mahama his employer is the Ghanaian voter. On 7 December,2024 it is the people of Ghana who will decide whether he deserves an additional 4 year contract or that enough is enough. Unfortunately the actions and inactions of the current appointees and those at the presidency is making John Mahama look like a far better alternative. John Mahama is been giving more than enough 'ammunition ' to fire in 2024. He may not even be able to fire all. I don't know whether the current president have this in mind, if he were to handover to John Mahama on 7 January, 2025, what message will the good people of Ghana be sending to the current president? That John Mahama (NDC) with all his flaws is still far better than him ( the incumbent NPP). If that happens the current president will go down in history as the worse thing ever to happen in our political history. I personally don't like the NDC, unfortunately all the gates are being opened for them (NDC) to come back by people who think they know all and therefore will not listen to anybody.
The country is very sick, is beyond imagination, someone enjoying pension benefits from tax payers want to come back while still enjoying his pension benefits every month, are we humans at all?
