National Communications Director of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagba says the party has no candidate for the Assin North by-election.
The Assin North by-election to elect parliamentary candidate for the constituency is scheduled for Tuesday, June 27, 2023.
The seat became vacant following a Supreme Court ruling that the National Democratic Congress' James Gyakye Quayson is no longer a Member of Parliament over claims that he holds dual citizenship.
The Electoral Commission set Thursday, June 1, for picking of nomination forms, stating filing fee is GHȼ10,000 per candidate.
Commenting on the by-election during Peace FM's panel discussion programme "Kokrokoo", Richard Ahiagba noted that the NPP is yet to elect a candidate for the election.
He stated that the party will hold elections on Wednesday, June 7, to elect their candidate, however revealing the competition is between two aspirants with one named Charles Opoku.
"To be frank, NPP doesn't have any candidate," he told host Kwami Sefa Kayi but stressed that "we have strong belief that we will win the Assin North seat".
