Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor, NDC Member of Parliament (MP) for South Dayi constituency has wondered why the National Identification Authority (NIA) is charging Ghanaians for services already paid for by the Ghanaian tax payer.
According to him in a post on Twitter, his records in Parliament show the August House has already approved huge sums for the Authority since 2018.
"My records in Parliament show we've given the NIA huge sums as follows:
2018 -Ghc 200m
2019 -Ghc 285m
2020 -Ghc 100m
2021 -Ghc 200m
2022 -Ghc 37.6m
2023 -Ghc 37.6m
Total -Ghc 1.02bn
"Yet, the NIA is taking Ghc 280 from our poor to do its public duty already paid for by the tax payer. Something is wrong," he said.

Rockson, you should have added the expenditure made by NIA so far and any excess sums they have from the allocation made so we know you’re making some sense. Respect yourself as an MP. I doubt you thought theough this thoroughly before writing. Shame!
The NIA was not supposed to charge but due to our corrupt mentality, they have managed to put premiums there in order to do get Daily Cash. They will end up destroying the whole process with bribery and corruption. That’s how we Ghanaians end up destroying government policies. Greed.
NDC & propaganda. You spent 8 yrs in government and couldn't issue even 1 card! What are you saying. Now people are wide awake against your propaganda! Bring it on!
This MP is so dumb to the extend that he does not deserve to be in parliament. Does he pay for his driver's licence? Is it not the government that pay that agency. He can only be an MP at the place where there is no competition for his seat. Daaawa I am an Ewe from Dzodze and I think the likes of Dafeamakpor, Okudjato, Fiifi Kwetey, Sosu are gradually degrading our name.
THIS IS CRIMINAL AND I WOULD BLAME THE JUSTICE SYSTEM OR THE SUPREME COURT?I AM SAYING THIS BECAUSE MOST OF US DONT KNOW THE LAWS OF THE COUNTRY AND ITS THE MANDATE OF THE SUPREME COUT TO BE INTERPRETING SOME OF THIS LAWS TO THE PUBLIC BUT THEY DONT MEANWHILE THIS JUSTICES ITS THE TAX PAYERS MONEY THAT IS USED TO PAY THEM?
ROCKSON! Must you type if you have nothing to say? Dont we pay for passport and other govt services, though the respective office is paid with tax payers money? Moreso did I hear NIA saying premium services? Please come with more information. You are respected MP and your effusions in public must be informed and not just noise
