NDC Member of Parliament for Yapei Kusawgu constituency, John Abdulai Jinapor says former President John Dramani Mahama is widely known for solving the excessive power fluctuation in Ghana, 'Dumsor' before leaving office.
According to him, claims that the NPP government inherited 'dumsor', a persistent, irregular, and unpredictable electric power outage and managed to solve it in their first term is untrue.
Ghana’s national power outages reached a crescendo between 2014 and 2015 during the erstwhile John Dramani Mahama era.
To arrest the situation, the then Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration entered into several Take-or-Pay contracts that have compelled Ghana to pay GH¢12 billion for power.
However, the PPA appears to be now biting the country’s economy harder.
Recently, the World Bank reported that these PPAs have contributed significantly to the economic woes of Ghana.
Currently, Ghana has an installed power capacity of about 5,000 megawatts and dependable capacity of about 4,700MW with the all-time high peak demand of 2,700MW.
John Jinapor, who served as deputy Minister for Power during Mahama's era, said there are documents to back former President Mahama's interventions in completely solving the situation.
He said in NEAT FM's morning show, Ghana Montie that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has admitted that Mr. Mahama solved the infamous 'dumsor'.
"Bawumia even agrees that President Mahama solved Dumsor," John Jinapor said.

@kweku indeed John Mahama said Ghanaians have short memories. We were here 2016 when the then Minister of power Kobina Donkor put his job on the line that if he doesn't solve the dumsor by December 2016 he will resign as power minister and true to his word after he couldn't solve dumsor in December he resigned. so how did the NDC solve the dumsor before 2017?
It looks as if some of you commenting here were not in Ghana in 2016/2017. For political reasons you refuse to give credit where it belongs, or you were not following events in this country in a chronological order. May be some of you were in a long deep sleep and missed certain developments or you were living outside Ghana. It is on record that, as at January 7, 2017 dumsor had been completely eliminated. I also want to place on record that dumsor was not created during the 4 years the Mahama-led government was in power. Dumsor arose because of previous governments failure to address the looming danger in the energy sector, and these governments include Mills-led NDC and Kufour-led NPP. NPP should stop lying all the time and stop throwing dust into our eyes. Politics has caused brain damage to certain people and they see one thing and say the other.
Paakwesi Obimpeh! They talking about contract NDC government signed for very long time and still Ghanaians are paying for it. And what are you talking about. You don’t know what you are saying and don’t understand it. Do you think if you say this administration borrows that means your NDC will win power 2024. You are joking. The money Mahama and his NDC government borrowed we Ghanaians are still paying the interest. Mahama 120 billion at time $1 is 4 cedis, now $1 is 12 cedis do you think Mahama 120 billion is still 120 billion. Now Mahama 120 billion is time 3 this means Mahama debt went up to 360 billion. Take that out of Ghana debt right now and see before you come out and saying this. Akuffo Addo didn’t send you NDC to prison that’s why you guys always come out boldly and saying all this things. Mark it down that NDC will loose 2024 with no joke.
Very irritating to tell us that Mahama solved dumsor. Who created it? Was there dumsor when Mahama assumed office after the death of Atta Mills? So why this Mahama solved dumsor as if it was a perennial problem and he came to solve it? Your recklessness created a problem, and even if you solved it, what is the fuss about? Give us a break!
This guy is not serious. NDC have have a big problem with this can of people. Dumso Mahama fixed the problem. What are you talking about. Do you think we don’t have brain to think. You are very weak mp and you will see your party gonna loose 2024.
This administration is clueless. Let's say NDC signed bogus contract, agreed! After 6 years and we are still complaining, then this government has problem. What this government should be doing is that we anticipated extra capacity charges and within 4 yrs, we have cured that problem. You don't accumulate debts and complain that NDC caused it. This is too childish. Growing the economy alone would have cured extra capacity charges. What did this government do when in it's first year, reduce taxes and electricity tariffs and went and borrowed. ***barred word*** at the highest level. Where's the ESLA and daakye bonds money? We were told it was over subscribed. With all sincerity and honesty, this administration is bankrupt with ideas and has failed miserably. Thank you!
In the first place who created dumsor? It was incompetent Mahama. Who does he want to come and solve a problem he created? You NDC guys are irritating. You will never come to power again.
See we don’t need the NDC to tell us what we’re feeling .. our minds been made up and whoever will feel the heat. We won’t be supporting mediocrity any longer . You aren’t performing and your reason to stay on is Yen Akan fo)) slogan, trust me , we’re going to vote Ghana from now on. We won’t be ***barred word*** by no alllegiance. You mess up, you’ll be voted out
Jinapor told NPP in 2017 that if they want dumsor to stop, they should contact the NDC for help but this same person is boldly saying something else today because he knows Ghanaians have short memories and the radio stations don’t keep proper records. By the way, who left dumsor for Mahama to come and solve? No one. Mahama created dumsor and even if he solved it with Ghana’s resources, what has he achieved? Absolutely nothing. He couldn’t solve it within four years but was able to do so within two months before leaving power? NDC for you.
