Former General Secretary and presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party, Kwabena Agyepong has impressed upon the party members, especially those who participated in their presidential and parliamentary primaries, to rally behind Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to clinch victory in next year's elections.
Addressing the party faithfuls in Kumasi on Friday during Dr. Bawumia's "Thank You" tour in the Ashanti Region, Kwabena Agyepong said the internal contest was only a democratic exercise to select a leader for the party and that what's significant now is to fully and actively support Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
"Our tradition is a very big tradition and we believe in democracy and intraparty contests.
"The election was a process to choose the flagbearer of our party. And fortunately, God has blessed us with a flagbearer, so let us all come together and push him to win for the party", he stated.
"We are done with the elections and Dr. Bawumia is now the property and project of the party and all of us must come together and rally behind him for victory in 2024," he urged.
Historic win
Kwabena Agyepong, who demonstrated his knowledge in the NPP's history, said the Dr. Bawumia's election as flagbearer is historic stating no one in the history of the party has won by the margin of votes Dr. Bawumia attained in the party's presidential primary.
"Nobody in our tradition from Professor Adu Boahene in 1992 to J.A. Kufuor to Nana Akufo-Addo has won by 61% in their first attempt to lead the party. His victory is significant because it is big and the voice of the people is where the Lord's blessing is", Mr. Agyepong noted.
The former General Secretary also called on the party executives to exhibit the "spirit of sacrifice", stressing "the party can only be stronger when you are stronger. And our flagbearer Dr. Bawumia can only be stronger if we all work hard and rally behind him".
He added; "You are the frontline soldiers of our party; you are the main people to ensure victory. Your main job is that you are executives first right from the polling station level, so I want you all to come together."
Dr. Bawumia was accompanied by the National Chairman of the NPP, Stephen Ntim and General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua.
Also present were former NPP presidential aspirants; Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, Thomas Addai Nimo and Kojo Poku.

Bawumia is a monumental failure and a disaster to lead this country.
Well said, even though Umuofiahene and his wolf in sheep clothing cousin have lay a solid foundation for the return of John Mahama , the Mamprugu show boy is unwavering in his determination to pull a surprise. From every indication Bawumia is not having it easy dealing with the finance minister who has and continues to give the NPP a lot of headache with Umuofiahene looking on unconcerned. Is it not surprising that Bawumia of all people have never publicly commented on the IMF wahala, domestic debt exchange program, suspension of road tolls, banks of Ghana printing new notes, the 2024 budget among others. I want to believe that if Bawumia sits in front of the steering wheel himself, things will change for the better. It won't be easy but nothing is impossible.
The government is asking importers of some selected goods to obtain licenses before importing, so that the import bill on goods like fruit juice would go down. Roads and interchanges in Ghana consume a huge proportion of our foreign exchange earnings. Take the circle interchange for example. The govt of Ghana spent more than $200 million dollars on it. While the govt is seeking to limit the importation of some goods the government must find a solution to the roads and interchanges problem.
That is the way to go Mr. Agyapong. Rally behind the right man for the nation. Bawumia is the future for this nation. Those calling Bawumia liar are confused like one they support
Bawumia was not the voice of the people. Jubilee house folks used money to get him elected. We will see how they can influence the entire nation come 7th December 2024. Why did you contest him when you knew he was the voice of the people?, you are obviously thinking about you empty stomach.
When hunger hit men, they quickly make uturn. Kwabena wants post brutal.
God bless Kwabena Agyapong for his forgiving spirit. Who has been more humiliated and treated unfairly than Kwabena Agyapong in the Npp fraternity? I do agree with those clamouring for Kwabena Agyapong for the vice presidential candidate slot for the grand old party. Kwabena Agyapong connects well with the middle class. His downsizing government is well known and his simplicity in life is well admired. Some of his own anti party government measures are enduring to the floating voters. Above all, he is a born natural communicator.
Rally behind a chronic liar.
I suggest Dr Bawumia CHOOSES Kwabena Agyapong as his running mate. He’s the only one who can help him when it comes to POLITICAL COMMUNICATION Trust Me NDC is waiting to tear Bawumia apart and there’s no one in the NPP to defend him
