Professor of Linguistics, Prof. Kofi Agyekum has cautioned politicians to refrain from their unwholesome habits that potentially jeopardize Ghana’s democracy and peace.
Opanyin Agyekum, as he is affectionately called, advised the political leaders and actors not to allow their pursuit for power cloud their sense of judgment in that they will do anything, even to the detriment of the masses, to acquire power.
He spoke in relation to the violent clashes recorded at some centers in the ongoing limited registration exercise by the Electoral Commission.
The exercise which commenced on Tuesday, May 7 and will end on Monday, May 20 has been characterized by some pockets of violence as at some registration centers, some persons were seen brandishing guns and machetes and sparking a brawl among themselves.
These clashes are said to have some political undercurrents and addressing the issue on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, Opanyin Agyekum asked the politicians to note that as they incite riots in order to come into power, they should remember three significant things of life that every human cannot escape from.
He listed the unpredictability of the future and death, stressing every political actor should reflect on these things and revise their ways.
“When they remember the future, they should also remember death because there is death. It awaits all of us. So, in our going in and out and us inciting children…what can you do when death comes? Lastly, they should remember their Maker. Remember there is God who is watching all our activities,” he stated.
