Senegalese music legend to be honoured with lifetime achievement award at the prestigious Africa Music Awards on Saturday October 17th. Youssou N’Dour has always had an unparalleled cultural position.
Since 1982 he has put out sensational records with a worldly tack as a descendant of Senegal’s griot caste of Sufi storytellers. His music and socio-political activism have surpassed religion, nationality and language, resulting in him becoming Africa’s most famous musician and a Grammy award winner.
Well now the Senegalese superstar is to finally be rewarded by his homeland of Africa, with the prestigious lifetime achievement award at the prestigious Africa Music Awards (AMAs).
Speaking passionately, Eric McKaiser, CEO and founder of the AMAs said “Youssou N’dour has successfully managed to bridge the gap between the West and Africa. There can be no doubt that he is one of the most famous singers alive and it is only fitting that we honour such an African legend” .
With a whole host of other stars such as Eve, Akon, Tinchy Stryder, Amr Diab and Lennox Lewis appearing, the night promises to be spectacular and with more than 50million people worldwide watching the event, it is going to be the perfect honour for Youssou N’Dour.
Many people in the music industry believe that the AMAs in London are going to take the place that the MOBOs have left behind, having moved to Glasgow, but what cannot be ignored is that it is going to be the most popular ticket in London on Saturday October 17th.
