Contemporary Ghanaian highlife will this year gain another boost as two of the most prolific singers outdoor their latest albums. In the past week, there was a lot of media blitz concerning the upcoming albums of highlife singers Kwabena Kwabena and Daasebre Gyamenah.

Although, the highlife genre has been suffering over the years due to the rapid growth of rap music in Ghana, some staunch highlife musicians are strong in their resolve to sustain the good old tradition. Since his introduction into the music industry a decade ago, Daasebre has remained one of the most vital forces in contemporary highlife music to date, with a string of hits to his credit.

In spite of his trial and acquittal for drug trafficking charges in the UK, the singer believes that his fans still remain loyal to him. Talking to Yaw Sakyi on the Rundown last week, Daasebre hinted that his last album was a massive success in terms of sales in spite of the low rotations on radio and TV.

Daasebre also expressed hope that his new album would follow in the success of the last (post incarceration) album. The lead single ‘Me Gyi Apem’ is already enjoying airplay. According to the singer, the songs signifies an end to doing stuff for free and he hinted that this time around, if anyone wants Daasebre Gyamenah to do any shows, it’s going to be payment upfront.

He also revealed that he would be making himself more available to his fans this time around, doing shows among other things. Daasebre remarked that he is excited about the growth in the Ghanaian music industry, saying that Ghanaian music is now heard all over the globe.

Drawing on his experiences from the drug trafficking charges, he advised Ghanaians to be generally careful of the company they keep. Kwabena Kwabena has also been talking about his upcoming album, ‘Binini’ which is expected to be launched sometime this week.

The flawless guitar stroking vocalist has left an indelible imprint on Ghanaian music since his introduction into game some few years ago. His hit single, ‘Aso’ remains a classic and ‘Obi Do WO a Do Ni Bi’ currently is the most loved Ghanaian love song. But Kwabena Kwabena hits that the best is yet to come so music lovers should stay tuned! Judging by the unplugged sessions he had on some television and radio stations over the week, Kwabena Kwabena isn’t going anywhere anytime soon!
