The new president of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Bice Osei Kuffour, has declared that the rebranding of MUSIGA by his administration is to make the union attractive to all musicians and stakeholders.

Obour, who said re-branding the musicians’ body was part of his four-year developmental agenda, assured the members of the union that his administration would be an all inclusive one.

According to him, MUSIGA was working tirelessly to provide every member of MUSIGA with health insurance. This, he said, was of paramount importance because an ailing membership would reflect a poor union, adding that his administration believed health was wealth.

President Obour, who made these known at a press briefing at the MUSIGA Head office, disclosed that his administration would put in place free legal advice, and in some instances legal representation, on music related issues.

Flanked by some MUSIGA executives and a number of top musicians, including Rex Omar, Obrafour, Nana Tuffour, and A B Crentsil, Obour unveiled plans to set up a MUSIGA band across the 10 regions of Ghana, and also ensure that MUSIGA partnered major event organisers and events in the country.

President Obour announced that his administration would, from October 12 to December 31, embark on a re-registration exercise which would take place at the National Theatre in Accra.

He also revealed that the union would organize a walk on World Tolerance Day, which falls in November, to help fight the politics of insults in the country.

He continued that MUSIGA would host a gala night at the Banquet Hall, State House, on November 25 for the musicians’ body to meet up with government, corporate Ghana, NGOs and other bodies for support for the music industry.

Obuor, who has been a member of the Creative Commons Summit for some time, was hopeful that affiliation with the outfit would impact positively on his work as MUSIGA President.

Obour pledged his total support for the upcoming three-day Ghana Music and Food Festival scheduled for the Accra International Trade Fair from October 28 to October 30.

Obour, who had a meeting with the organizers and partners, Konsule Entertainment, saw the upcoming event as a good prospect for all musicians in the country to jump on board.

The maiden Ghana Music and Food Festival is a unique platform designed to support what we grow locally in the country in terms of music and food. He used the press briefing to officially swear-in new directors and committee members who would help him run the affairs at MUSIGA.
