As part of activities marking the 50th jubilee celebrations of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), now African Union (AU), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in collaboration with RAM Media Concepts and the African Union Secretariat, is organising the ‘African Union Day Musical Concert’ at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) on Sunday, May 25, 2014.

In a press release, the organisers of the music concert stated that headline artistes for the night show, Amakye Dede and Amandzeba Nat Brew are both poised for the concert.

The concert is being held to commemorate 50 years of African liberty and the formation of the continent economic block, the OAU/AU.

Other interesting artistes on the night show are good old Ben Brako, Sherifa Gunu, Elivava, among others.

The Coordinator of the event, Augustine Mark of RAM Media Concepts added that the event is expected to bring entertainment to lovers of African music from all walks of life.

Mr Mark hinted that measures have been put in place to bring on the bill some internationally recognised African artistes to complement the show.

He said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration and other collaborators were working hard to ensure that the concert remained one of the best musical shows on the country’s entertainment calendar.

The African Union Day which actually falls on May 25 every year is considered as a statutory holiday in all member states of the AU.

“Additionally, this year is a special year,” Mr Mark hinted, and added that the year 2013 marks the 50th anniversary of the formation of the OAU, now AU.

He said as part of activities lined up for the year-long celebrations, the National Planning Committee of the OAU/AU 50th jubilee celebration had already started organising series of activities from May 2013 and would climax the activities with the ‘African Union Day Musical Concert’ which falls on May 25, 2014.

The activities include musical shows, lectures, round table discussions on the continent’s economic development and achievements over the last 50 years, theatre performances, debates and cultural displays for school children, among many more.
