A LONELY meerkat (critter) rejected by his family because he was born out of "wedlock" has become a zoo's star attraction.
Little Aleksandr, just 4 weeks old, was booted out of his clan after he was born from an illicit fling involving the group's "nanny" figure.
Now so many visitors are flocking to see the super-cute critter that bosses at Devon's Exmoor Zoo have employed a full-time worker to supervise the crowds.
And zookeepers reckon he could become as big a star as his namesake in TV's Compare the Market insurance ads. Meerkat minder Tina Rowtcliff, 22, said: "In Meerkat society you have a mum and a nanny character, who looks after the kids.
"The nanny is not supposed to fall pregnant so, if it happens, it is because of an illicit affair. This occurred in Aleksandr's clan and he was the result. "When the nanny gave birth, she threw him out rather than face the consequences. But we put him in an incubator and he survived."
Aleksandr even has a half-brother named Simples who keepers hope will be his pal. Tina added: "He's playful, nosey and utterly adorable."
