The Ministry of Tourism Culture and Creative Arts is to sanitise the creative arts industry through the passage of the Films Bill.

Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, the sector Minister said cabinet had approved the bill, which is now in Parliament for passage, adding that the Ministry would soon roll out a sensitisation programme particularly for the industry players to solicit their inputs and fill in the gaps.

A release copied to the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday  said Mrs Ofosu-Adjare was addressing members of the Ghana Actors Guild in Accra.

She assured the actors of the Ministry’s support in reviving the film industry and using it as a catalyst to preserve and promote the country’s cultural values.

Mrs Ofosu-Adjare appealed to the members to join her in the Explore Ghana Campaign which sought to encourage Ghanaians to embark on domestic tourism and appreciate Ghana’s tourism assets.

She used the opportunity to invite the actors and actresses to be part of this year’s Okwawu Paragliding Festival which starts on Friday April 3 at Atibie, Kwahu.

Reverend Eddie Coffie, President of the Actors Guild thanked the Minister for making time to have one-one interaction with members on the state of the industry.

He said the Guild is willing to partner the Ministry in implementing the project and praised the Minister for her appreciation of the film and creative arts sector as a vehicle to promote the national pride.

Reverend Coffie appealed to the Minister to help the Guild raise funds for aged members and also help the members to stage a Real Ghana film festival where indigenous concepts and productions of Ghanaian culture would be premiered.

Mr Akunu, Board Chairman, Ghana Tourism Authority and member of the Cultural Forum of Ghana, called for the players in the industry to institute a fund and seek corporate support to develop the welfare of its members.
