Popular Ghanaian actor, Alex Kofi Adu aka Agya Koo has explained why he declined to join movie makers to the ‘Esum Aduru Yen’ demonstration last week in Kumasi.

The demonstration which was organized by the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG) to register their displeasure at the untold suffering the erratic power supply in the country has brought the movie industry, registered low attendance as compared to the Dumsor Must Stop vigil organized by Yvonne Nelson some few weeks ago. Again, it was reported that the well-known movie stars did not attend.

According to the secretary of Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG), James Aboakye, who spoke on AM Pluzz on Pluzz FM, actors and actresses who were not present for the demonstration would be penalized.

In an exclusive interview with Agya Koo, he said he did not join the demonstration because the movie producers had sidelined him for movie roles so he saw no need to help promote their cause.

“For the past four years I’ve been jobless, producers do not see my importance as an actor who strives with my colleagues Mercy Asiedu, Katawere and some of the old actors to make sure we restored the business and now producers who think they are enriched with book knowledge and don’t regard us as actors, want me to go on the street to demonstrate for what? Do they know what I do to feed my family and pay fees? I am not a fool,” he lamented.

He also added that even though he agrees the erratic power supply is affecting all aspects of human life including movie production, he was not even invited in the first place, to be part of the demonstration.

“When Otumfuo Osei Tutu came out to advise that we should limit nudity in films, I called on people in the industry to stop the act, no producer or actor supported me. It was tailors and engineers who came out to help. Today they are doing similar thing and want me to join; I don’t want to talk much because yearly they plan things to destroy me. When I say it, everyone will say Kofi is not good but I will always speak the truth,” he concluded.
