In a head to head shoot out poll organised by Vodafone Ghana Music, Wiyaala won out of Efya, Becca and Esther Smith as fans voted the Upper West songstress their favourite female artiste.
Wiyaala, a former Vodafone icons winner, first arrived on Ghana’s music scene in 2013 and has arguably become one of the most influential music artists in Ghana. Her insistence on always performing with a live band is thought to have positively encouraged some of Ghana’s biggest rap acts to adopt live band instead of playback and a DJ.
Since winning Best Video of the Year at AFRIMA 2015, she has unleashed a stream of critically acclaimed videos of which the latest “Tuma” was described by The First Lady, Lordina Mahama as “beautiful”.
Wiyaala is currently on an extended tour of Europe and is set to perform at WomadUK on the 29th July and is expected to confirm soon that she will be joining the Voices of Revolution tour which will include performances at Ronnie Scotts, POP Brixton, The Shambala Festival, Festival No 6 and the Freedom Festival at the end of August.
