Gospel musician Rev. Lenny Akpadie has described as a “mistake” his decision to give his popular song titled ‘Most High God’ to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to use it for its political campaign in the run up to 2008 generation elections.
According to him, it has made his music career dormant and advised mainstream acts to refrain from allowing political parties to use their music for political campaigns.
“I have suffered a big time… I acknowledged that it’s a mistake…,” he said while he was speaking on Hitz FM on Monday morning.
Rev. Lenny Akpadie took Ghana by storm when he released ‘Most High God’ several years ago.
The song received massive airplay and transcended beyond the borders of the country. It won him the artiste of the year and the popular song of the year at the ninth edition of the Ghana Music Awards (GMA).
He became a renowned figure in the music industry.
But the song faded when a rendition of it was used for the NDC campaign in the run up to the 2008 elections. It is believed that the politicisation of the song got music fans disappointed in the artiste.
Rev. Lenny told Hitz FM that he gave the song to NDC to use at a cost of GH¢7,500 for a period of one year.
He has, however, regretted his action and wondered what would have happen to him if he was personally on NDC stages to perform.
“They were only using the song. In fact, they even wanted to extend the contract but I refused. It would have been bad because even without climbing their platforms I was attacked. So they took it for one year… Anybody should mark my words; anybody who associates himself and is in the mainstream will suffer for it. If you associate then it means you don’t have a brand, you are just a singer and you have sung for them. That one nobody knows you so you have nothing to lose. But if you are like me and popular at that- getting the most popular of the year … then it’s like you have become an enemy to the opposite side and it is real,” he revealed.
“I have gone through it. I have put my finger in the hole, I know it so well. It almost caused my marriage… oh goodness. And I continue doing the music bigger and that was when I saw that this is the problem. Then I said NDC didn’t call me, God called me. So I went back to my source, I said God I cannot die musically because of this my mistake. I acknowledged it is a mistake but I don’t need to die out. Please anoint me some more,” he added.
Rev. Lenny’s latest revelation comes not long after ex-President John Mahama has allegedly introduced ‘Bobolebobo’ by gospel artiste Evangelist I.K. Aning as his campaign song for the 2020 elections.

Interesting. So Lucky Mensah also made this revelation some years ago. I really wonder what the evil that party as a whole is. Also why do they always have to pick gospel songs and replace the name 'JESUS' with their candidate's names. Late Jewel Ackah's sonG , Lenny Akpade and currently this bobolibobo. Daddy Lumba, Kwabena Kwabena and Philipa Baafi composed and sang for NPP and are all doing great
National Devils Congress is N D C. everyone must know that. Whatever they lay thier hands on will collapse. They only good at propaganda and create loot and share
The bobolebobo man will suffer the same fate if he doesn't stop ndc from using that song. ..
BUT THAT SONG WS ORIGINALLY A NIGERIAN SONG AND YOU COPIED IT ABI ?
THAT SONG MOST HIGH GOD IS A NIGERIAN SONG ABI?
Rev. Jehovah you are the most high is not your song....its a Nigerian song that you made a rendition by adding one or two lines....Compose your own song and this lies, this song has been in existence long time before you even thought of singing it in your own style....
THATS WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU ASSOCIATE YOURSELF WITH NDC. DADDY LUMBA COMPOSED A SONG FOR NPP AND HE IS STILL DOING WELL-HITS AFTER HITS. AM GLAD YOU HAVE LEARNED YOUR LESSONS
Rev. If you associate yourself with Ndc that is what happens. Associate with Npp and you will see progress because Npp is the party of the people. Apart from themselves, very few people join Ndc. As for that party hmmmm... Haven't you heard them complain that Doctors, Nurses, Lawyers, Pastors, Market women Tailors, Seamstresses, Students.etc, etc don't like them? I always wonder how they manage to win elections in Ghana. But we shall see the real size of Ndc in 2020
