About 35 polling station executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Asante Akyem South constituency of the Ashanti region have been suspended indefinitely for supporting former President of the Musician Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Bice Osei Kuffour, popularly known as Obour.
Their crime, according to reports, was honouring the invitation of Obour who is vying for the Asante Akyem South parliamentary seat.
Christian Asante, a suspended polling station chairman for Adansi D/A Junior High School on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem programme, Thursday, said the decision taken by the constituency executives is in violation of NPP regulations.
He noted that, once nominations have not been opened, any candidate is entitled to meet all interest groups to sell his or her campaign message. A livid Mr Asante is convinced the indefinite suspension is a ploy by the constituency chairman, Gilbert Adarkwa Yiadom to settle personal scores.
“We did no wrong because even the incumbent Member of Parliament, Kwaku Asante-Boateng also met other polling station executives so why didn’t they suspend them,” he quizzed. In a rebuttal, the Asante Akyem South Constituency Secretary, William Obeng said the suspension was apt.
He said the 35 polling station executives had copies of a circular from NPP national executives prohibiting anyone from meeting any aspirant but they flouted it. The indefinite suspension, Mr Obeng stressed is to serve as deterrent to others intending to repeat the same mistake.

With all due respect,I know the constituency executives were exercising their powers but I want to know who an aspirant is first, because nominations are not yet opened ? Does it mean no party functionary can no longer meet party members? Hmm. Let us not forget this same happenings in 2008, which cost us dearly.
KGee...why didn’t they suspend the incumbent Member of Parliament, Kwaku Asante-Boateng and co since he also met other polling station executives at the same location. we are watching em....2020 is just around the corner...
Yea, when rules are laid down for a game, same should be respected by participants of the game. If it's true there was a circular banning meetings of officials with aspirants and these people flouted same, then no problem at all. Officials should learn to respect rules governing their offices.
