A group of creative people have formed a coalition to galvanise support for the government’s efforts to rid the country of the coronavirus pandemic.

The group, led by veteran actors Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante and Kwaku Simtim-Misa (KSM), under the tag name, Covid-19 Citizen Coalition (CCC) believe they could use their positions as public figures to actively join in the fight against the disease which has seen Ghana recording 287 cases as of Tuesday, April 7, 2020 with five deaths.

Already, actors Adjetey Anang, John Dumelo, Yvonne Okoro, James Gardiner, Nana Ama McBrown, Lydia Forson, Jackie Appiah, movie producer Peter Sedufia, veteran musician, Amandzeba, comedian DKB, among other personalities, have joined the coalition to help mobilise resources to purchase medical supplies to assist frontline health workers as part of the group’s community support.

Speaking to the Graphic Showbiz, Juliet Asante indicated that money raised would go towards the government’s effort to cater for disadvantaged communities which have been hit enormously as a result of the lockdown.

The group, she said, had secured a shortcode 202019 which is available on all networks to mobilise contributions.

According to Juliet, members of the CCC have already made financial commitments to kick start the project.
“We are working closely with the government and the finance ministry to ensure the money is used properly to support the efforts that are already underway,” Juliet stated.

She said the Covid-19 pandemic presented the opportunity to show true leadership, “we believe that the creative sector has been showing leadership for a long time in many ways and this is another way for us to help keep all Ghanaians safe and to let people understand that we are all one people and we should fight together and be active citizens.”

The CCC, she stressed was also committed to using its platforms to educate their fans and the general public on the importance of staying safe and following instructions from the government and the health authorities.

She called on the public to contribute to the cause since fighting the pandemic required resources to undertake adequate care and treatment for those with the disease.
