Broadcaster Kwami Sefa Kayi has expressed disappointment in Ghanaian Chef, Ebenezer Smith, for declaring himself the world record holder for the longest cooking marathon.
Chef Smith held a press conference on Tuesday, July 1, where he disclosed to the media that he has been adjudged the new cook-a-thon record holder by the Guinness World Records.
“I am deeply humbled and honoured to announce that I am now the new world record holder for the cook-a-thon,” he said.
He displayed a certificate which read; “The longest cooking marathon (individual) is 802 hours 25 minutes and was achieved by Ebenezer Smith (Ghanaian) in Spintex, Accra, Ghana. From 1 February to 6 March, 2024.”
Later on, the Guinness World Records replied to an enquiry to authenticate this claim.
"No, this is not true. He does not hold the GWR title, and that is not our certificate. The current and true holder is: the longest cooking marathon (individual) is 119 hours 57 mins 16 secs and was achieved by Alan Fisher (Ireland) in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, from 28 September to 3 October 2023," a PR Executive of the Guinness World Records, Alina Polianskaya wrote.
Kwami Sefa Kayi was flabbergasted by the action of Chef Smith, wondering why he would do such a thing.
"I'm sad for him. Why would you do that?", he expressed on his morning show "Kokrokoo" aired on Peace FM.
